Guest guest
Dear , Thank you so much for replying! I guess It doesn't help that I'm only 22 and so to them I'm practically still a child. I was made to feel like a complete idiot-it was probably one of the most humiliating experiences of my life! Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for that, thats made me feel a lot better to know they can't really refuse to treat me! Ok then probably best then to get my dad to go with me! I felt like saying to my Dr. 'Well what would you do if your child was this ill and was told by EVERY doctor to JUST LIVE WITH IT surely you would go anywhere, try everything, pay any amount of money to get them better' Wished in hindsight I had said that instead of crying! Any foreigner that turns up in UK taking a treatment prescribed by a foreign doctor is entitled to treatment on the NHS in the case of an emergency. It is not because you have not been followed by an NHS doctor that you forfeit your right to treatment of any kind. You must stop thinking that you have done something wrong and concentrate on your doctor's obligations to you in his rôle as a public service worker. You should get someone to go to your next appointment with you if you feel intimidated (best if it's a male member of your family in my opinion!). My sister goes to see my step-mother's specialist with her so it must be possible. I let myself get pushed around by docs in the beginning of my thyroid problems because I was too fogged up to think straight or even ask questions and I am old enough to be your mother. Look upon this doctor's bad manners as part of a learning process and don't let it get you down. You don't have to put up with this. Take care and good luck with all this business. MacG. Guest guest
Hi Josie, I'm a UK resident and haven't been to see my doc about my thyroid/adrenals for 3 years now. He's not bad, but just doesn't know about it, and the endo didn't know about it as well. My view is 1. It's my body and I have the right to choose my own treatment. 2. I pay my taxes and so I feel that they work for me. 3. The NHS must treat me if I fall ill, and I will not tolerate anyone treating me with disrespect. There are perfectly reasonable ways to convey a point across without being aggressive, and you might consider reporting him. 4. As others have said, you can get blood tests done privately. I'm a little cross myself now -grrrr! They sound like a right bully. You are in the right, you've done nothing wrong and at the end of the day it's you that has to live in your body, not them. We're here to support you, whatever the doc says. I'm just about to start my own RT3 treatment, my T3 arrived today. Fingers crossed. I can second that! And I mean to the exact numbers! lol! Josie you go Girl! I'm very impressed that someone at your young age is starting to take the medical bull by the horns. It is unquestionably YOUR body and yelling or attempting to intimidate and/or humiliate is NOT acceptable behavior from someone supposedly trained to help people. I hope you are soon able to find a better, more compassionate person to help you on your journey to improved health. M
