Guest guest
I have celiac disease, hashimoto's and I think 's which I started HC and florinef for. I have also had pretty bad digestion, diarrhea, since July. I wasn't looking for an answer per say, just nice to have some sort of reason for the weird blood test results. I am having the iron panel repeated this Friday with more care to avoid iron containing foods. The girls from the adrenal group recommended the methlcobalamin. Thanks for the info! kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Tue, March 30, 2010 9:10:24 PMSubject: Re: High serum iron/high saturation but LOW ferritin High iron serum & saturation accompanied by low ferritin may indicate something is impairing the formation of new blood cells (hematopoiesis) . Guest guest
I had my thyroid out in 2007 so not sure if I would still get flare-ups of the Hashi's. Not really certain how that works I am very careful with my diet so Celiac shouldn't be an issue. If I am right about my adrenals though and I do have 's that would also be an autoimmune issue. I have been having pain almost constantly around my right adrenal at least since last summer so my thought would be that it is active. I had the same type of pain with my thyroid before they took it out. The malabsorption/diarrhea seems to have been from needing so much salt and having salt wasting issues. Since I started the florinef and am holding more salt I can't go.... back to being hypothyroid... this is all so much fun! Thanks for all the imput though! Really helps me to understand what is happening and why I am having so much trouble. My ferritin was TWO when I was diagnosed with Hashi's so that helps to explain that as well I am having the iron panel repeated this friday so it will be interesting to see how the levels are off of all iron. Kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Wed, March 31, 2010 9:47:06 AMSubject: Re: High serum iron/high saturation but LOW ferritin It might be the Hashi's. As soon as I saw "autoimmune" as one of the causes of impaired hematopoiesis, I wondered if you had Hashi's. It seems likely that a Hashi's flare-up would adversely effect iron utilization. Conversely, during the times when the Hashi's is quiet, iron is probably utilized a lot better. This makes a lot of sense, since many folks here have asked about this iron test result, and many folks here have Hashi's, too. Celiac is notorious for causing iron deficiency. Celiac (as you know all too well) causes malabsorption and malnutritionhttp://www.medicine net.com/celiac_ disease/page7. htmMalnutrition is another cause of impaired hematopoiesis. The good news is that there should be times, when both the Hashi's and the celiac are quieter, that it should be possible to successfully supplement iron and raise ferritin.> >> > That is a very interesting idea.
