Guest guest
Robin, I don't know what you're situation is, but I have found that when I get REALLY stressed, I just exercise. Whether it be walking briskly, which I do inside the house while my son is at school or out with my husband......put on a very loud CD that has a beat and sometimes even do a little punching while I'm at it. Or putting in a video tape and sweating to the oldies. Usually if I have had a very stressful day, this will relieve it and I will feel much more in control. I have had to deal with things other than my son.....to include an 18 year old daughter who is disrespectful and lives with her father 5 states away.....and don't get me started on him. Anyway....this usually helps me and is pretty quick to do. Hope this helps Judy off topic - need antidepressant suggestions > Okay guys, > > I think I'm at that point where I need to take something. Guest guest
After reading the book on 'Shadow Syndromes', I realized that I too was depressed and not just my daughter. It took me a long time before I asked my doctor for anything. My dh was put on Paxil after his heart attack 18 months ago. It seems a heart attack can depress you. I have been taking Paxil for 4 months. It has not slowed me down but it has kept me from blowing my top and maybe the term would be berserking at my 29 yo bipolar daughter and her two ADHD or bipolar sons. One of which I am raising. I do not lose control when the 9 yo sneaks out the back door after dark and tries to sneak back in without getting caught. But I do think more clearly about the discipline that needs to be done. I started off at 20 mg a day and in three months I am taking 30 mg. With the extra stress that I am getting from the 9 yo and his mother, who is bouncing back and forth from an abusive husband with the 4 yo, I just might be having it raised to 40 mg. My doctor is also my daughter's doctor and she is concerned about the stress she feels I am under. I must tell you, dear people, that Evan is the least of my stress. Although I am concerned about his well being and his recovery, I am beginning to see a better future for him than his brothers and his mother. She is taking 4 breathing treatments a day and STILL is smoking at least 1 cigarette a day. When she feels better, she smokes more. AAAAHHHH I have never smoked so I cannot personally know the addiction but I do know that her father did not stop until he lay in the hospital for 3 weeks. Nothing like being unconscious for 9 days to detox you. oh yes, I have gained at least 5 lbs but I am not sure that I can blame that on the Paxil ;-), I have found that the bread rolls that Costco bakes are very addictive. And it is the season to make all those sweets that I have no business eating. Betty in Central California

Guest guest
Robin and Judy Exercise is the ONLY way I have kept my sanity the last year (OK no one argue and say I am crazy now!!) Try exercise and a gluten free / casein free diet. I am now eating like my son and feel better too and lost my headaches (that were coming around Daily!) I had a diet " infraction " today (I ate a piece of pizza because I was starving) and the first time in a month I have a whopping headache. (Coincidence? I think not) Drugs are good and need to be there when necessary. But I would try diet and exercise first. My husband knows if I have " that look in my eye " he sends me outside for an hour. I come back ready to play and deal with where I left off. Good luck A Jeffs mom Re: off topic - need antidepressant suggestions Robin, I don't know what you're situation is, but I have found that when I get REALLY stressed, I just exercise. Guest guest
I'm glad you realized you were depressed before there was trouble. I had to have a big wake up call. before I realized I was depressed. At that point, we did get respite care. One source was through the medical card which we no longer have. The other was through " Life Skills. " It's a state run agency that supervises early intervention therapies, supported living, and back to work programs. I'm guessing there are such agencies in all states. I try to take some time each day for me, but don't do a good job of it. I definitely feel better when I exercise, though I don't do it enough. Being in the sun helps too. I've cut out coffee because it was literally making me sick (sore joints, stomach cramping), and I'm working on sodas. That one is harder to get rid of since I really don't want to do it. One recent thing I've started doing is taking Omega-3 TG. Is this the same stuff I've seen posted? It does wonders for me. I take two capsules a day. ( I don't see a mg dose on the bottle.) I didn't know I was depressed until I started taking this, mainly for memory. I was in the car with the girls and we were being silly together. I realized that it had been a long time since we'd laughed together for silliness sake. So I'm more faithful about the " fish guts " as I call them. Just what I do to help cope. Reading everyone else's posts makes me want to get back into the walking routine.
