Thank you, Emma, for the articles on collagen.  I'm sure this will answer all

the questions that came up on that subject.  I hadn't known where the

information came from.  You have enlightened me.  Thank You so very much!

Yes, it was Dr. Trentham who first put me on A/P and through that protocol, I

made great strides.  I would not be here if it weren't for Minocin.  I urge

all to keep on searching and to follow A/P.  M/P is another variation of A/P.

There are other protocols that use antibiotics as their base.  Some people do

better on one or another variation, but the important thing is to keep those

offending organisms from taking over your body.  It may be the fight of your

life for the rest of your life.  Giving up is not an option.  The best to all

Hi Everyone,

I saw the inquiries about collagen and arthritis and remembered the studies

that Trentham has done. He is an AP doc in Boston that many of you

know.

Passive Transfer by Cells of Type II Collagen-Induced Arthritis in Rats

Abstract

To investigate the role of immunologic hypersensitivity to collagen in the

causation of type II collagen-induced arthritis in rats, passive transfer

experiments were performed. Wistar/ rats used in these experiments were

demonstrated to be histocompatible by prolonged skin graft survival and

mixed lymphocyte cultures. Popliteal lymph node weight assays excluded a

potential for graft-vs.-host reactivity in this strain. 9 of 32 naive rats

developed arthritis after intravenous receipt of pooled spleen and lymph

node cells from donors that had been injected intradermally with type II

collagen emulsified in incomplete Freund's adjuvant. This passively

transferred synovitis was evident clinically as well as histologically. In

control cell transfer experiments involving a total of 97 recipients,

transfer of arthritis was shown to require viable cells sensitized to type

II collagen. These controls included 17 rats receiving cells from

unimmunized donors, 20 recipients of cells from donors injected with

incomplete Freund's adjuvant alone, and 24 recipients of cells from rats

injected with type I collagen in adjuvant. Deliberate addition of

solubilized type II collagen to unsensitized cells at the time of transfer

or injection of heat-killed sensitized cells also did not cause arthritis in

a total of 36 recipients. These latter two control groups indicate that

disease transfer was not the result of antigen carry-over. Intravenous

injection of sera from arthritic donors was incapable of passively

transferring clinical or histologic synovitis in 30 recipients. Thus, these

studies directly implicate immunologic sensitivity to the cartilage type of

collagen in the etiology of this autoimmune disease.

Hi Dolores!

You saw Dr. Trentham? What was he like? I'm very curious about him because

I've read all of his studies. He's getting somewhat close to retirement age,

I would think. I've thought about looking him up, when I'm in Boston for

graduate school, and seeing if he would give me any advice or wisdom. He is

the only AP doc I can think of who is in academia, and I hope to make it

there too!

I'm excited for Spring. I should be within six months of having normal labs.

It will be the first time in six years! It's so much fun to rediscover life

again. It's so amazing to feel " normal " again most of the time, and to be

interested again in the same things as everybody else! I'm finally enjoying

things again. Hope you're having a good time too!
