Guest guest
I need some help choosing the best soil test option. My local extension office offers the following: 1. Regular series (pH, lime, P, K) - $7.00 2. Regular series + O.M. - $10.00 3. Regular + Zinc - $11.00 4. Regular series + O.M. + Zinc - $14.00 5. pH and lime only - $4.00 Looks like just the basics. The Peaceful Valley Farm Supply catalog offers readings for " organic matter, nitrate-nitrogen available, and 2 types of phosphorus, exchangeable potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium, soil pH, cation exchange capacity, % of saturation by major cations, sulfate-sulfur, zinc, soluble salts, excess lime and electrical conductivity. " Seems much more thorough. However, this test is $49.95 for the first sample and $34.95 for each additional. Plus you can get a micronutrient lab reading for $8.50 per sample. I probably need to take at least three, if not more, samples so it will be pretty pricey. Is it necessary, in your opinions, to get the more extensive test? TIA, C.
