Guest guest
Is this a new thing? I had a similar issue, it has happened 2 or 3 times now where I just start swelling like a balloon. I tired water pills, drinking more water - That made it worse, the water pooled in my feet - in 2 hours they doubled in size after drinking 3 or 4 bottles of water (swelling can be a sign of dehydration also) I finally took Benydryl and the next morning it cleared - I took the Bendryl for sleep due to the discomfort. In no way do I think bendryl is an long term solution but on each occasion it clear up what ever it was in one night the 1st time and 2 the next.....To this day I have no clue what caused it. Bendryl is a good go to med because if you get better right away you know it is a reaction to something. (We have a Nurse in the family that passed that along to me) You could be having a reaction to newly introduced medication, low potassium or a host of other things - You should have kidney and liver testing if it continues for a long period of time especially if your on meds or drink much. Last - my mother-in-law dealt with swelling for years and it turned out that they had her on a wrong heart / blood pressure med mix. Good Luck!!! Fluid retention Can someone tell me what to do - I am getting a lil bit nervous here.. Hands retaining fluids, feels like feet are doing the same, and my head feels the same was as the hands. I have this weird loss of feeling in my hands. Hertoghe just keeps telling me to avoid salt, and GP says the same. I want to understand what is happening to my body. Could this all be from high cortisol or could it be from TOO LOW SODIUM? <- Does anyone know if it's possible to retain water when salt is low? I think I read something about it somewhere... Guest guest
I have issues with fluid retention too. I can swell up really bad and just ache and feel horrible. I was on ~40 HC. I am on 52.5 of cytomel. I was taking ~1/4 tsp of salt each morning, afternoon, and evening and add a little in my drinking water. I had my electrolytes tested and RBC potassium and posted them here and they came out fine, potassium was perfect. So I thought it was thyroid. Though I raised the thyroid nothing happened and I just kept swelling. My ankles look like cankles, at lest 2 inches of swelling. My clothes, shoes would leave indents from the swelling. I am gaining serious weight from the swelling. My veins are breaking around my ankles from it and I get bruising from it when anything is pressed on the swelling. By the time I went to bed I was very swelled and in the morning it would subside. Then through the day it would swell again, like a cycle. It didn't matter if it was hot outside or cold. I rarely peed during the day, but at night I did. I decided to experiment the past week or so. I stopped the salt and only used it in my drinking water. Probably add 1/8 tsp in a 32 oz glass and sip throughout the day. I noticed I was not swelling that much, and I peed a little more during the day, and at night. My body was getting rid of this extra water. Next day, the same, swelling is going down more. By the 3rd day I am almost normal. I am not dizzy, my heart isn't pounindg, I don't crave salt, no high pulse. Peeing less at night. I decided to add salt. Within 30 mins I feel the swelling, and by the 2nd day I am a huge puffer fish. Yesterday I stopped the salt again, and this morning I am not so swollen. Another thing I noticed. When I took my hc when I wasn't doing the salt, I had a little bit of swelling. Yesterday I also decided to remove 5mg of HC from my dose. I know high cortisol causes water retention. My face is also a little more round from the swelling and red that is found on the high cortisol list. I also have weak muscles and I didn't before (I take testosterone), and I know that is listed as high cortisol symptom. And I have that wonderful belly fat which is cortisol. I am waiting now to see how my body adjusts pass the 3 days. Last night I noticed I didn't pee but once and sleeping decent. I sitll wake up tired, but at least I am not peeing 3 or 4 times each night. I think it is due to peeing more during the day. This water retention must stress the body. I hurt and ache from it. I hate how it breaks my veins around my ankles. Just letting you know what I am experiencing and experimenting with. - > > Can someone tell me what to do - I am getting a lil bit nervous here.. Guest guest
Great answer. I will go down on hc. 35 and see how it goes.Sendt fra min iPhoneDen 23. apr. 2010 kl. 15.11 skrev : When cortiolsl is too high it causes SODIUM retention and fluid retentoin, the problem is not so much wiht the salt as it is with too high cortiosl. When cortisol is NOT high sea salt will not cause fluid retention unless it is really in excess. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
