Guest guest
Hi Leonie and all of you with the itchies! I had fungus yeast problems long before starting on antibiotics. I have had athletes foot since a child.probably age 9 or so. I used to scratch my feet on the bottom of the carpet till they bled. As I got older I never wore sandals because of being embarrassed about the red scaly feet. When I got preg at age 23 I opened a screen door and tore my big toenail straight down the middle causing fungus to invade the nail and a lot of the other nails. It was a mess. I was on antifungals off and on for years and it never went away. I don't remember what year it was but a foot doc took pity on me and had the pharmacist make a potion I use on the bottom of my feet. Cautioned to not put it above the line of the rash. Later I found out it was embalming fluid!!! That took care of my foot fungus. It rears its ugly head once in a while and I usually put an OTC on it for a few days. About 20 years ago (I am 61) I developed the vag burning and itch. I went to general practiners, gynecologists and since I worked at an STD clinic I was tested for all the usual STD's.everyone came up with nothing. I suffered 8 years. I went to a lecture by my AP doctor who did not do AP at the time. He talked about the exact problem I was having! Now at that time Diflucan was not given as freely as it is now. To get a gyne to give script for 1 pill of diflucan you had to promise him your first born (joke). Well Doc Goldstein and I figured I had systemic yeast (all thru my body). He agreed to start treatment without blood testing because of my symptoms. I don't remember exactly the doses but something like this. Diflucan 100mgms 2 times a day for 2 weeks then Nystatin 4 times a day for 2 weeks then repeat. In the first week I had no more itch. After the 8 weeks I never had it again. UNTIL... I started AP in 1997. I had to and still do have to take Diflucan and Nystatin periodically. One thing I learned>>>> this fungus, yeast.never goes away. Your body is moist and a breeding ground. I do not try to get rid of it anymore. I just control it. Use Vag product like monostat but do not use the whole box. Use it for 2 days and then a diflucan. This can keep itch a bay for a long time. Or just 2 days of diflucan. If your doc will prescribe nystatin remember it is for the yeast in the gut you may still need to use a vag med. I know this sound like a lot of dective work on your part but it is worth it not to have those joint pains. Your body will tell you what it needs. If you have questions I would be glad to help. One more thing. If you go commando change your pants daily after all the pants you wear are just like your underware that needs changed daily. Do not under any circumstances wear spandex or stretch pants these are too hat and yeast love it hot. Sorry if this was long. I hope it helps some of you see having to use a med is better than joint pain.
