Guest guest
Well, I can tell that most everyone here has not had good luck with doctors in general and especially endos! Likely he will look at your TSH and tell you you are fine or if he decides it's too high, he'll put you on SynCrap. :-(( I would post where you live and see if other members know an open minded doctor in your area. Many of us have had to travel, even. And still many others are just self-treating I think there may be a file on how to find a good doctor. You could look there and see. Guest guest
My doctor took a year to diagnose my thyroid problem (during which time I was given tranquilisers!!) and I found out about my RT3 problem on my own, he didn't seem to know about it. This was my GP. We have since parted company and I self treat. If I had done this in the beginning I would have saved myself a lot of trouble because most doctors don't know much about the finer points of thyroid disease, even endos. I've been to see two specialists who were not much good either.I wish I had discovered the Internet Yahoo Health forums when I was diagnosed because I would have saved myself a lot of time with doctors. I have a new nice GP who keeps an eye on me, but is not involved in my thyroid treatment. Guest guest
My family doctor diagnosed me, went to 7 other doctors, most being endos and ended up with a naturopath who is doing more than any of the other doctors did. I would not go to another endo but we all have to make our own decisions.VeniziaSubject: Question to everyoneTo: RT3_T3 Date: Saturday, April 17, 2010, 2:59 PM Hi Ladies, I am new to all this thyroid stuff, but know I have symptoms of hypothyroid. Guest guest
I suppose my story is a bit different or maybe not. I had thyroid cancer and had my thyroid removed almost 5 years ago and went hypo from very poor treatment (synthroid and then too low amounts of Armour) I went through 4 endocrinologist - I am not a big fan of them - way too closed minded. I have one now that I see yearly to manage the cancer followup but do not allow him to dose my thyroid. He told me in January at my followup appointment that when I want to change to synthetics he would be happy to help get my dosing! ....HA! FAT CHANCE ON THAT! I am working with an ND right now who is writing my scripts but I diagnosed myself with hypothyroidism, low adrenal function and most recently RT3 problem. She ordered the RT3 test for me with the free T3 and based on the range of RT3 she said my RT3 was fine. She didn't understand about the ratio so I explained it to her. Not sure she is completely on board with understanding but she is allowing me to steer the ship and she writes the scripts I need. I am happy so far but she didn't give me any options I have been seeing her for a year and found out she didn't know that much about this whole thyroid thing but I have had 2 other ND that were in the same boat. As most have found on this group it pays to get educated and then educate the doctors. When you have one that will listen and not let their ego get in the way continue with them if not move on. I am 4 weeks into the T3 only treatment and 12 weeks seems so far away but I am going forward FINALLY!
