Guest guest
Hi all ; Have been reading you on the daily digest for some time and have decided it's time to comunicate with you a little. I've got a knew book that my naturopath suggested i buy and boy -oh-boy ! is it ever a wealth of comprehensible info. It connects all the dots for us. ENCYCLOPEDIA FO NATURAL MEDICINE by murray, N D and ph Pizzorno, N D. published by Three Rivers press, division of Random House. Here is a small sample of info.on the enzymes /vita./mineral's roles: The key functions of nutrients such as vitamins and minerals in the human body revolve around their role as essential components in enzymes and coenzymes. Enzymes are molecules involved in speeding up chemical reactions necessary for human bodily functions. Coenzymes are molecules that help the enzymes in their chemical reactions. Enzymes and coenzymes work to either join molecules together or split them apart by making or breaking the chemical bonds between them. One of the key concepts in nutritional medicine is to supply the necessary support or nutrients to allow the enzymes of a particular tissue to work at their optimum levels. Most enzymes are composed of a protein along with an essential mineral and possibly a vitamine. If an enzyme is lacking the essential mineral or vitamine, it cannot function properly. If provided the necessary mineral through diet or nutritional formula, the enzyme is then able to performe its vital function . For example, zink is necessary for the enzyme that activates vita.A in the visual process. Without zink in the enzyme, the vita A cannot be converted to the active form. This deficiency can result in what is known as " night blindness. " By supplying the enzyme with zink, we are performing " enzymatic therapy " and a llowing the enzyme to performe its vital function. Many enzymes require additional support in order to perform their function. The support is in the form of a coenzyme-a molecule that funtions along with the enzyme. Most coenzymes are composed of vitamines and/or minerals. Without the coenzyme, the enzyme is powerless. For example, vitamine C functions as a coenzyme to the enzyme proline hydroxylase, which is involved in collagen synthesis. Without vita C, collagen synthesis is impaired, resulting in, bleeding gums, easy bruising, and failure of wounds to heal. There may be plenty of prolyne hydroxylase (the enzyme) but in order for it to function it needs vita C. Glossary- Enzyme; an organic catalyst that speeds up chemical reaction . Coenzyme: a necessary nonproteine component of an enzyme, usually a vita. or min. I guess for you old pros this stuff isnt anything you dont already know but for us fledglings this book is wor th its weight in gold with 946 pages. cost:25.95 state side but cost me 35.95 over the border . Hope everyone has a GREAT & HAPPY week-end. Lynne's little sis, Suzanne Ask a question on any topic and get answers from real people. Go to Answers and share what you know at http://ca.answers.
