Guest guest
(((Robin))) -- Be glad that medications for this exist, because they can literally be life-savers. I have taken nortriptyline (brand name Pamelor) and Wellbutrin in the past, with good results. IME, anti-depressants don't make the problems go away, but they do take away the feelings of helplessness and despair when trying to deal w/ problems. I remember after starting Pamelor the first time telling my dr., " Well, I had a really bad day today-- but *I'm* fine. " We knew then that it was working. I do not know the gfcf status of either medication. Pamelor is what's called a tricyclic anti-depressant, and had been used for a few decades. Wellbutrin is actually the same medicine as Zyban (used to help people quit smoking). I forget the exact classification of it, since it, and Zoloft and Prozac and a few others always seemed to be in categories by themselves, or in one called " newer anti-depressants). I did take Zoloft for about three days-- hated the side effects (got terribly shaky). OTOH, I know people who would swear by it. I would encourage you to seek counseling at the same time that you are taking anti-depressants. It's easier to deal w/ whatever is triggering the depression when you're getting good counsel AND your mind is clear of despair. Best wishes and prayers-- I hope all goes well for you.
