Guest guest
Hi Ging, I am so thankful your husband is feeling well. Isn't it amazing how good they look when they are told they have this awful disease? I too pray that they have a cure soon, real soon. My son was a year old when he was diagnosed in 1986. He relapsed several times and finally went into remission a few years later. He is now 16 and is extremely healthy, in fact the pediatric oncologist released him from having to have his yearly check ups. That was kind of scary. It was comforting to know he was being checked yearly, but we adjusted to the fact that he doesn't have to go back. His doctor said if anything out of the ordinary happens, we can call anytime. The only problem has had since 1988 is Diabetes Insipidus from the brain tumors. It's not the sugar diabetes, the other kind where your body does not absorb fluids, so he has to take meds for the rest of his life to help his body absorb fluids and maintain a normal electrolyte balance. He is so good about remembering to take them twice a day. He suffered for 4 years with the disease, it was a long stressful haul and I honestly didn't think I could do it any longer. We were so drained mentally and physically, but here we are! Hopefully your husband will be on a very mild chemo. My son was on chemo, radiation and steroids. I think the steroids are what helped him the most, he had instant relief with the shrinkage of the tumors, he eye buldging was almost gone in one week and the tumors improved also. I know steroids are terrible for you, but he basically lived on and off them for years. He would be on extremely high doses for 6-7 months at a time. I worry so much about what all of the meds he was on and what it has done to his body that we don't even know yet. My heart is with the both of you ! Keep smiling.....I'm hugging you in my heart also!
