Hi Val,

Thanks for the reply! I had low-ish cortisol (temps now stable with isocort) and

very low ferritin (15! Should be up to 70 in a couple weeks). They seem to be

the only reasons for my rt3 that fit for me (according to Nick's RT3 site) but

the only other reason could be my dieting - I have been on and off low carb, low

calorie diets for the last 5 years - have lost all my weight each time, but I

always gain it back, and each time it takes longer to lose it. Last year it took

me 10 months to lose 16 pounds eating 1300 calories a day and doing intense

cardio for 6 hours a week! It's what got me started on this whole journey - was

looking into how I could end my endless yo-yo dieting!

So do you think that now that I have stopped my dieting and my ferritin and

cortisol are ok - that I am good to go for the 12 week course and hopefully that

should be the end of my RT3 issues? Or could my RT3 possibly clear on its own?

If I am all ok to start the RT3 protocol, then are you sure I will be able to

wean off the thyroid meds?! I am very worried about this!

The only other reason for my RT3 that I can think of is heavy metal poisoning

from the 4 fillings I have. But I don't want to even attempt to address this

until I have adequate T3 levels to allow for my body to detox properly. I intend

to have my fillings out as soon as my RT3 clears, but before I wean totally off

the thyroid meds.

Thanks!

A Healthy thyroid can bounce back even after years of spression as thta

has been done in studies I read a long time ago,I doubt serious RT3 will

clear on it's own but you may not have to take nearly as much T3 to

clearyour issues than a hypothyroid person would,

Hi Val,

Unfortunately I can't test my RT3 in my country, so I am just assuming I have

high RT3 from what you and Nick have told me on this group. These are my thyroid

results from the last couple times I have tested them:

Lab results 8 months ago (before I started any meds):

Free T4 1.6ng/dl (0.7-2.5ng/dl)

Free T3 3.3pg/ml (2.5-6.5 pg/ml)

TSH 1uU/ml (0.5-3.0 uU/ml)

TPO 26 IU/ml (0-150 IU/ml)

Lab tests 4 months ago (the day before starting isocort, but I had been on 4

months of licorice and adaptogens):

TPO zero

TG antibody 17 (<60)

Free T3 3.52 (2.0 - 4.4 pg/mL)

Ferritin 15.5 (4-104.0)

Lab tests 6 weeks ago (1 week before my temps stabilised, after being on isocort

for around 3 months):

Free T4 1.77 ng/dL (0.932-1.71)

Free T3 3.2 (1.4 to 4.4)

TSH 1.91 (0.27-4.2)

TG antibody 0.1 (less than 60)

TPO 13.56 (<60)

TBII(TSI) 0.91 (<1.23)

Ferritin 53 (4-104.0)

My Vit D levels and vit B12 levels are both high, and I take 150ug of iodine in

my multi which I have been taking everyday for the last year.

So it doesn't seem like I really have a true hypothyroid problem, surely? I hope

not! Any advice? Should I perhaps be waiting a bit longer before starting T3 to

see if the RT3 clears on it's own now that my ferritin and cortisol are better?

With regards to the dieting - I always thought that I built up RT3 while on the

diet, but then when I went back to normal eating (i.e. around 1800-2000 calories

a day), my rt3 stuck around (i.e. keeping my metabolism slow), and this is what

always made me put the weight back on. Could this be it?

I am so glad to hear that studies have been done that show that I could come off

the thyroid meds without any problems.. that is a relief! Thanks!

When you say that I might need a much lower dose of T3 to clear my RT3 - does

this mean that I could clear my receptors quicker as well?

Thanks again!

Hi Val,

Ok, will do! But surely 150ug is not too serious? I don't eat any seafood or

iodated salt at all - don't I still need a little iodine to make thyroid

hormone?

So you think that iodine may be causing my increased RT3 over the last year? So

I should drop the iodine and still give the T3 protocol a try? Or wait a bit

before going on t3? My T3 is in the post and should be arriving in a couple

weeks.

Do you think that because I have antibodies, that I should stay on thyroid

hormone permanently to keep them supressed?

Thanks again! Sorry for all the questions!

On the iodine, there is iodine in alot of the foods we eat. I know the

proponents say we are all iodine deficient but I have avoided iodine for

years because of reacitons to it and I test as pretty high when doing a

test for it. But i eat alot of grass fed meats and eggs, and thye are

good sources of iodine. I sitl think oyu need ot clear out the rt3.

Hi Val,

Ok. great, thanks!

I will go ahead and start the T3. Is there a particular way I should try wean

off of it after my receptors have cleared? Say decrease by 10mcg a week or

something?
