Since you all spend so much time in front of the computer ; ) I thought someone might have some ideas about what kind I should get. I'm not even sure why computers are bad for us in the first place... Flat panel displays are much crisper and easier on the eyes. I don't know if there is any truth the cathode ray tube health risks or not.

Since you sit closer to your computer screen, the exposure is more of a problem. Go with a flat screen, the refresh rates of the better ones compare well to the CRT's. Older, cheaper technology uses slower refresh rates, so you get that draggy look. Portland, OR

Do they produce x-rays as > well? --snip-- As said, LCD flat screens are altogether " flat " boxes (no need to propel those cathode rays a distance). LCD (liquid crystal display) doesn't use cathode rays, and does not produce x-rays. It may produce some emf, but doesn't have the magnetic field that CRT's do. Hence, Flat (LCD) monitors are pretty benign. I have a CRT with an anti-glare-radiation-static sheild (NoRad). It is pretty clear. I would rather have an LCD (a high quality one) but will probably weight until this one burns out. If I were you, I'd go down to your local computer store and check out the LCD's.
