Guest guest
Treatment options look into a treatment called the cyberknife. It stops tumor growth. Its a trial u lay on a table and She says its super easy and pretty comfortable too she was even allowed to eat a light breakfast befor. She had 4 tumors in her lumbar/thorasic area that were growing moderately fast. 6 months after the treatment they mri'd her tumors have stopped growing so far. When she was there there was a woman who had a daughter and a tumor in middle of her brain. Surgery was'nt an option so she chose this method. Its low dose radiation. She said no symptoms afterwards and she laid flat in an open room for 30 min. I'm looking into it too... They do it in Pittsburgh Cleveland and in California. She chose to fly to CA because she said they have done it longer than Pitt...word has it pitt had the cyber device sitting in a box for awhile because noone knew what to do with it. But thats a rumor I dunno. I checked once but Dr albright seems to have more faith in chemo ok here http://www.vnpartners.com/accuray.htm now as for low dose chemo with few side effects these are proven to stop tumor growth i have a few names for u to ask about Hydroxyurea no hair loss or naseau but u need frequent blood count work friends of mine have taken this for years if u would like i can get u testimonials from them temazolomide this is what they want to try on me in Pitts noone knows anything about it and I can't find it on the net but same thing just for different tumor type. I have astrocytoma in my brain stem. The gamma is an aption also gamma knife but it can cause swelling in ur brain. And scar tissue. Steriods stop the swelling but scar tissue mnakes surgery later harder. So one thing I have learned from my crew freinds is to do laot of research look into all the options and possible outcomes. Personally if I was healthy as u are and can get around as well as u and work etc. I would stay away from surgery and gamma both can cause damage. There alot of people tho that have had both and come out good or even better thn befor but thats a chance. If I had a choice I'd chose either cyber knife or chemo. had no swelling which was fantastic. Lowi takes hydroyurea and has no symptoms and it stopped her tumor but u gotta stay on it. I've been told by Leiberman in Pitt that its a good way to keep tumor at bay til there is a better procedure. Tevyn has taken it for 5 yrs and plans on staying on it the rest of his life. ok heres leiberman that i see in pa Lieberman, MD S. Lieberman, MD Associate Professor of Neurology and Medical Oncology Chief, Brain Tumor Center Clinical Services Brain Tumor Center University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Kaufmann Building-Suite 802 3471 Fifth Avenue Pittsburgh, PA, 15213 (fax) http://www.virtualtrials.com/ search this site for really good trials even in Pittsburgh area. This is my fav. it has all this in it also. Tells u what u must meet in requirements but it does not show any outcome that i know of. I belong to a group of people with brain spine and acoustic (ear) tumors. We see alot of different drs and are pretty up to date on stuff. I have learned alot from them. I'm asking around still and if i see anything new I'll send it to u. HUGS! Sara
