Guest guest
I don't know if it is the nystatin or the disease or the medication. I had scleroderma (in remiission) and my hair also got very thin. I was on Minocin100mg twice daily for 4.5 years and now am on Minocin 50mg MWF. I had to cut my hair short because it got so thin, but now it is growing strong, thick and healthy looking again. Not knowing what else you may be taking or what your disease is makes it difficult to pinpoint the cause for hair loss. Most long term illnesses cause hair loss. I guess that is a natural state for diseases of the immune system. Dolores  From: Zannie <zannie68@...> Subject: rheumatic nystatin and hair shedding rheumatic Date: Friday, November 26, 2010, 10:24 AM  Hello everyone, Just wondering if anyone has had the same experience. I have been taking nystatin for about 2 1/2 weeks and now my hair is really starting to shed. I am even afraid to wash, comb, or run my fingers through it. Has anyone else had this experience? Amy, I wonder what you have to say. I think this is a die off reaction and it is scaring me. I have decided to get off of this stuff. I will go back to grape fruit seed extract in its place. This stuff is as toxic as chemo if it is making my hair fall. Thanks for your thoughts. Suzanne
Guest guest
You're probably right Delores. This is just a blow to me. I feel like I have lost so much already. I guess I am just done dealing with chronic illness. It is very hard emotionally. We all know that. I am glad you are doing well and that you're hair is growing back thick and strong. That is encouraging for me to hear. Thanks for your response. How did you get thru the dark days, when your disease was at its worse? I am having a hard time coping. Guest guest
Hi Sally, What a beautiful post. It really brought tears to my eyes. You're right we need to be there for one another to support each other and and lift one another up. I think God brings people together for a reason. I have a dear friend named Laurie and this horrible disease called dermatomyositis brought us together. She is one of the dearest souls and I truly love her. I am sorry that you are homebound. That is a difficult predicament to be in. Because when you leave your house, you can at least distract yourself for awhile with other things. Being at home leaves you time to think too much. I have my crying days too. And I think it's important for us to get our feelings out and then move ahead. You know Sally, you can pull yourself out of this predicament and heal. I too was able to enjoy remission for 5 years like Delores. I was having the time of my life with my kids. I think you are definitely on the right path. The minocin does work. I am proof of that. It's just a long road with ups and downs. But it is possible to heal. I am not taking Minocin at present because I suffer from yeast overgrowth and I want to get that under control first before I start antibiotics. I am really into natural healing and am reluctant to go on Minocin even though it helped before. I just wish there was an herbal cure. Please continue to share your feelings. I would love to be there for you and encourage you like you have done for me. Please feel free to email me privately so that we can chat. I need you too Sally. And I so appreciate your kind, caring, and loving post. You made my day. It's funny, my mom's name is Sally and she has nothing kind to say. And very unsupportive. Now, I have found a Sally who speaks kind words and offers encouragement. How nice. Thanks again for encouraging me. You have my support too. Keep sharing your feelings.
