Guest guest
What I learned is that if you really must take iron and calcium several times a day, as with the T3, take the T3 sublingually. This way you avoid ALL issues with iron & calcium & thyroid meds. Take them all at the same time, no prob - cause sublingual absorption doesn't interfere with what you swallow!I just take 100 mg iron when I go to bed and put 10 mcg T3 under my tongue at the same time.See, I'm learning too!Subject: how to schedule doses of iron, calcium, & T3?To: RT3_T3 Date: Thursday, March 4, 2010, 9:35 PM  I've just read on the RT3 website that iron affects absorption of T3, so T3 should be taken one hour before iron or 4 hours after iron. I'm about to start on Cytomel, which will need dosing several times a day. My ferritin is very low, so I also need take iron several times a day--my digestion can't tolerate taking it all at once. A typical schedule on the RT3 website shows dosing T3 every 3 hours. In that case, it would be impossible to take iron 4 hours apart from T3, since I need several doses of both.  The same is true for calcium. The website says to take T3 one hour before calcium or 3 hours after it. I have osteoporosis and must take 1500 mg calcium a day, in 3 divided doses. And calcium must also be taken apart from iron. How on earth can I juggle all these requirements and still get enough of the these various things I need? Can anyone advise on this? Thanks so much for any help--this has me stumped.  Peggy
Guest guest
I take T3 4 times a day and find that is perfect and ther eare alot more hours in the day than that. I htink it might help to just sit down with a plan. Say you are up at 7am this si what I would do 7am T3 8am Iron 12PM Calcium 1PM T3 2PM Iron 5PM T3 6PM Iron\ 7pm Calcium bedtime T3 I knwo this si ALOT. If you cna take T3 sublingually you only need wiat til itsi dissolved to take other things. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
Guest guest
Wow, thanks . I've read that some T3 can be taken sublingually and some not. My doc has just ordered Cytomel. Do you know whether Cytomel is one that can be taken sublingually? This is such a big help. Peggy ..
Guest guest
Thanks, Val. I don't mind having to go through intense scheduling. But the RT3 website says to wait 4 hours after taking T3 before taking iron. I'm up at 5:15 a.m., but even so, if I need to take T3 4 or 5 times a day, it's simply impossible to wait 4 hours after T3 before taking iron. And it says to wait 3 hours after taking calcium before taking another dose of T3. And since I need 1500 mg of calcium daily, and the body can't absorb more than 500 mg at a time, I have to take it 3 times each day. The whole thing just becomes impossible. The only way I can see to deal with this is to go sublingual. Which brings me to this question--is Cytomel one of the forms of T3 that can be taken sublingually? If so, problem solved--then I only have to juggle iron and calcium, which also must be taken separately from each other. Peggy Re: how to schedule doses of iron, calcium, & T3? Guest guest
Any regular T3 can be taken sublingually. And T3 is absorbed VERY quickly and much easier than T4 so you do nto have to wait four hours after taking it even swallowing before taking something else, an hour is plenty probably less than that. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
