Thanks for info. I

Douching? yea/nay? was--> pH Levels? was-Dee

HI and all, ;)

Hon, all I can say is that I've never had a problem using a douche but it's not a full fledged thing either, just those few 'squirts' mainly of water to rinse out semen, and if it's with the vinegar or the Betadine, it's only when I feel an infection might be coming on. So the flora is already disturbed hon.... and I don't think the water changes anything and doesn't kill the good lactobacilli we need.

In fact I'd read even using some solutions that we bounce back fairly fast to our own pH levels within a short amt. of time... but IF there's a bacteria or fungal infection 'trying' to set up store, it just helps to wipe it out fairly fast or least it's a good chance that it may, if that makes sense? Again just my opinion of course and how I've seen it work for me hon.

Hold on a sec... let me look thru my chaos here *smile*...

This is just one article I have (not in reference to the above but interesting) with here's a clip about douching and the benefits of vinegar.

''This study tested 7 commercially available douche products against normal vaginal lactobacilli, the bacteria you do 'not' wish to kill off, and bacterial strains causing bacterial vaginosis such as:

Gardnerella, Mobiluncus, Mycoplasma, Peptostreptococcus, Ureaplasma, group B Streptococcus, and Candida yeast species. They found that the 4 products containing 'antiseptics' had inhibitory effects against all normal and abnormal bacteria and yeasts with only a minute of contact time.

On the other hand, the 'vinegar' containing douche

products were effective inhibitors of the "bad" bacteria

and did not seem to inhibit the "good" lactobacillus at all. This data seems to imply that vinegar douches may not be harmful and in fact may be beneficial for treatment of the occasional vaginal discharge.

Three vinegar-containing douche products selectively

'inhibited' vaginal pathogens associated with bacterial

vaginosis, group B streptococcal vaginitis, and

candidiasis, but 'not' lactobacilli.

(*It's the lactobacilli bacteria we want and need. DT)

HERE'S A SECOND ONE... Even though it's about HIV transference it's just good logical sense as to the reason why.

THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY......

"To assess whether vaginal douching with water performed immediately after sexual intercourse could significantly reduce semen components and restore normal physiological cervicovaginal pH. " ''Frequent persistence of semen in CVS (cervical-vaginal secretions *dee*) from heterosexually active women leads to a shift from acidity to neutrality that could favor male to female HIV transmission and other infections.

Vaginal douching provides significant elimination of semen after sexual intercourse; it should be considered for study as a supplementary means for the prevention of heterosexual HIV transmission."

It's quite often that question comes up hon. Some feel we should never douche, others may say there are times occasionally when we should, but for 'me'.....?

It just makes sense that I don't want that ejaculate in me all night long, let alone the pH level difference and the chance of irritation (or getting an infection). So of course it's a personal choice hon..... but I swear I've done it most of my life (prob. 35 yrs?) OMG that long? haha Yes.. and I've just never had a problem with it and have rarely had infections either. Keep in mind I'm not doing this every day either tho *chuckle*.

There are some women who may possibly even be allergic to semen. That can happen too but I don't think it's very common. Although is may be more likely with someone who may have Gulf War syndrome ... A conclusion from an Army study and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA says this........''The results of this study indicate that seminal plasma hypersensitivity may present as 'burning semen' syndrome in a subpopulation of Gulf War couples''

So for what it's worth.. *grin* just my opinion hon. ;)

Hugs

Dee~ ;)
