Guest guest Posted March 26, 2002 Report Share Posted March 26, 2002 I knew someone would react this way! It's a common enough joke among mothers that we lose 5 IQ points with each child. It's also thought by some that oxytocin contributes; Michel Odent talks about this. Of course, we can work against this tendency... I've asked this question specifically of many mothers. The one who comes immediately to mind was the kindergarten teacher who said she couldn't follow adult conversations for two years. I would suggest that this is not something that mothers readily admit to, but they are more than grateful when they hear that it is a common experience. And of course, not everyone experiences it. J.
