Guest guest
suzanne, hi i live in carmel:), i have had trouble finding a doctor in this area... i was going to the Guyer institute over in Nora and i was using westhroid compounded in their pharmacy... to make a long story short, when my labs came back normal and even high, yet i still didnt feel right, they had no idea what to suggest except that i didnt need to be on thyroid meds, that i was " too focused on my thyroid, " and that i was trying to make myself hyper in order to stay thin <<GAG>> couple years ago, i saw Stirling, a DO in indianapolis, and all she wanted to do for my thyroid was give me drops of iodine. anyway, now, thank goodness, i have found my miracle doctor, only thing is he is in Mishawaka, next to South Bend. but i would drive twice as far for him. (actually only turned out to be a 2+ hour drive, not bad, straight up 31) Dr. Don s... he actually really respects the site " stop the thyroid madness " , which is where i got his name. man, do i wish they could all be like him. I knew there was some missing piece to my puzzle, but had no clue; HE is the one who uncovered my RT3 issue for me. Whats more is that he actually has the same problem, so there is sympathy there. i have never ever felt more comfortable with a doctor in my life, and i am the biggest skeptic/fighter when it comes to docs. here is an interview he did with Shomon: http://thyroid.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.thyroid%2Dinfo.c\ om/articles/docdon.htm and here is his website http://www.dmichaelmd.com/ a doctor who is skeptical of doctors and Medicine in general, blew my mind... if she decides to go with him some heads up: it is a small office, with only one office assistant, kind of old school, which i found very nice and refreshing, however he books out in advance. my twin sister scheduled an appointment a week or so ago and the earliest she could get was May 10th. be prepaired to pay out of pocket, up to $500 for the first consult. first visit has to be in person, and mine took 4 hours talking in his office (only charged for 2 max, though) consults after that can be over the phone, my last one took 45 minutes and cost $118... well worth it though. he had prescribed sustained release T3, but when i explained to him that i would much prefer regular cytomel and why, he had no problem working with me on that. he is also addressing supplementing estrodiol and testosterone, both of which i was low on, plus vit D, and B12, and some more misc things. he did NOT look at ferritin, which i found to be the only oversight, esp since from previous labs i know mine was in the dirt , so i am struggling getting mine up now... so keep that in mind. But he truly wants to learn all he can from his patients, :)so cool. he prescribed Dhea, but i stopped that cuz i think it wasnt going in the right direction.... blah blah blah ANYway, sorry to babble, i am just so utterly impressed by this doc i want to spread the word where appropriate. hope this helps. feel free to ask more questions if youd like. -is > > Someone posted a few weeks ago looking for a dr.in the Indianapolis area, did you find a good dr.? My sister lives in that area and is looking for a dr. familiar with rt3. > > If anyone has suggestions please let me know. She is curently seeing Swanthi, a nurse practioner at the Health and wellness Center of Carmel, who knows nothing about rt3. She thinks all my sisters needs is Synthyroid! ( My sister' rt3 ratio is 9.1)It is so maddening! This dr. claims she knows so much about thyroid issues that she teaches classes on it! I really feel this is an endangerment to the people/patients who trust her! Is there nothing we can't do about changing the education of these dr.s?
