Guest guest
I need help with understanding the big picture of what I am trying to do in getting rid of the R-t3. I have read the website but there are still some gaps in what I know. THIS IS MY UNDERSTANDING. Please correct, fill in my gaps, or re-write. It is very simplified. R-t3 issues stem from the t-3 in your body (converted from t-4) going into the receptor cells upside down. This creates a sluggish metabolism and all sorts of hypo symptoms. To change this pattern, getting the t-3 your body makes to be activated, (going to the cells right side up)you have to clear the old t-3 out. This means your t-4 and FT-3? as well as yout TSH will start to dramatically lower if you follow the cytomel protocal advocated on this site. These numbers, of course, will alarm your MD or ND. Clearing- you go hyper, meaning all of a sudden your body is using your own t-3 correctly and you are taking high doses, so it is time to lower your daily dose according to how you feel and your temps/ pulse/ other symptoms. To stay cleared- you will take t-3,in a lower dose, most likely for the rest of your life with no ill effects. You have to monitor temp, pulse, blood etc.

It has to be the right one though, remove the wrong one and you get a mirror image called reverse T3 (RT3) > >To change this pattern, getting the t-3 your body makes to be activated, (going to the cells right side up)you have to clear the old t-3 out. Sort of, you have to " starve out " the RT3 by stopping any more being made. As RT3 and T3 are both made from T4 removing T4 from the equasion stops both. Replacing your own T3 with enough correct T3 " turns off " your own T4 production > >Clearing- you go hyper, meaning all of a sudden your body is using your own t-3 correctly and you are taking high doses, so it is time to lower your daily dose according to how you feel and your temps/ pulse/ other symptoms. It depends if you went high enough on T3 to clear all hypo symptoms while the RT3 was decaying away. If you did you will probably go hyper for a day or so, if you stayed hypo then clearance probably takes the form of stopping being hypo >To stay cleared- you will take t-3,in a lower dose, most likely for the rest of your life with no ill effects. You have to monitor temp, pulse, blood etc. IF, and a big IF you can find what caused the excess RT3 in the first place then you could go back onto natural. For many of us we can't find why and stay on T3. I feel better on T3 than I have for probably 40 years looking back This was the summary I put on the web site http://thyroid-rt3.com/whatis.htm Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com
