Nick or Val.. are you able to help? Would you suggest taking b-12 as well?

Does having a low hemoglobin level indicate an infection, since my red blood

cells are good and ferritin is also good (160)?

First of all make sure you have a good b12 level.

Here in Australia the range for Haemoglobin is 115-165. Now my ferritin is really good but I do have low haemoglobin. I take Aranesp shots for it. If I don't it will drop to under 90 in a matter of months. Your kidneys make erythropoietin a protein that stimulates the production of red blood cells. My one transplanted kidney does not make enough erythropoietin. Therefore I take the synthetic version of it which is Aranesp. Technically if I don't take my Aranesp I am anemic. So if your haemoglobin keeps dropping I would look into.

Can anyone explain how I can have low hemoglobin and my ferritin is fine? I thought they were both measurement of iron? I've been anemic before and craved ice chips ( many years ago) I don't have that now. Am I anemic? What corrects that? Sent from my iPhone
