Brief recap: Breast cancer in the right breast Jan 2003. Lumpectomy with sentinel node removal (good margins and negative nodes), chemo (AC) and radiation. Current: Cancer in the left breast May 2006. May be a new primary, may be a reccuance, none of the docs agree. So I had a double mastectomy in June with 12 nodes removed (all negative). However, the left side incision broke open because they removed the drains too soon. The open wound was not healing, so the onc sent me to a wound speciality (the surgeon refused). The wound care clinic was great. They got the wound healing and now it has finally completely closed. The onc had delayed the start of chemo untill the wound had progressed enough in healing, so I finally started chemo on August 10th. I have had two of three doses of the 1st round of Cytoxan, Ellence and 5-FU. The next dose is tommorow and then the next round of Taxotere and Herceptin starts in three weeks. After 12 weeks of that then I have 40 weeks of just Herceptin. Along with the chemo I take Ativan, Zofran, E-mend, Decadron and a paste to numb the port. As supplements I take Essiac, Noni juice, Pomegranate juice, Aloe Vera juice and Colloidal silver. I also give myself daily Reiki treatments and recieve a weekly treatment from a fellow Reiki Master/Teacher. I had a MUGA scan on Tuesday. They thought I had heart damage from the 2003 chemo because the scan in 2003 before chemo had a left ventricle injection volume of 65, the one in June 2006 had a LVIV of 54. However, this time the LVIV was 67, better than 2003. So no damage at all. Yeah. I have also been dealing with lymphedema since July, but I could not get a referal to the lymphedema people untill the wound closed. Since the wound is now official closed, I just had an appointment with the therapist today. She did the lymph draining massage and had me order the banages for the wrap she will show me next week. She had me order them, because it is cheaper for me to order them direct than for her to get them for me. I also can finally get fitted for my prosthetics. That appointment is Monday as well as an appointment with a plastic surgeon. I want to know what my all my options are. And last but not least, I got the results of the genetic testing and I am positive for the BRAC1 mutation. Therefore, I will be having a complete hysterectomy (uterus and ovaries) at some point in the next year. This means I have to find a new gynecologist, because the only surgery my current OB/GYN does is C-sections. I hope this one work out because one of her specialties is pediatric gynecology as well as early/sudden onset menopause and hormonal issues. My daughter's pediatrician has already told me that once she hits puberty (with my family history at 8) she will need to be followed by a pediatric gyencologist.
