Guest guest
Hi Vicki and All, I am sure glad to hear your opinion on this subject Vicki. You had several different points I wanted to respond to so I <snipped> out pieces and replied to each. <Off topic or whatever list guidelines we use it doesn't create additional work for and I> Thank you for clearing that up for me as I have never moderated a group. I am glad that we haven't been making your job harder. < DO 'Me too's', 'go girls', " LOL " and other responses that benefit one person really need to be shared with over 800 people?> To be honest - it wasn't these types of replies I thought were being alluded to - I hadn't really thought of them, since they are so quick to read and delete. Food for thought...... <An additional consideration is, not everyone has lots of time, computer time, high speed internet access or pentium class computers or real computer literacy,> I agree - I left the main OSSG list as there were so many posts it took a VERY long time to get through them each day and I just couldn't keep up. But I don't feel like that here. So I thought I'd check out if my perception was real or imagined. I visited OSSG main site and our home page and discovered that we really are not as busy (I am not saying that means we are not too busy for some people - just that we don't compare to OSSG main) The Main list averages 2215 messages a month - we average 703 messages a month - that means about 23 messages each day - still a lot for people with limited access I guess. It seems like we should be able to " put this issue to rest " so can we? I asked and you Vicki, in a on site post to please change the settings back. I HAD NOT been asked to do so by anyone, but took it upon myself to ask for the group, as almost all the responses to this issue seemed to favor that. But we haven't changed back nor have you and given us a direct answer - on site - as to whether this is going to happen or not. It occurred to me that maybe there is a " silent majority " out there who have posted directly to you and/or asking that we NOT change back? I had a thought about figuring out what the " group " wants: On the Main OSSG site they do " polls " I went to the " Help " setting on egroups and read about " Polls " . It is up to the moderators to decide if a group can have the option to take polls on their site - but the way I understand it - you or could turn this feature on and we could take a simple poll - CHANGE - DON'T CHANGE and get an accurate understanding if people in the group do or don't want us to change back - then we could do what the majority wishes We cannot decide for ourselves to take a poll - only a moderator can turn this function ON for a group. So - can we either take a poll and go by majority rules OR could we get a direct Yes or No from you and so we can quit discussing this and move on. (I KNOW that I am the one who keeps bringing it up - but I did ask for a change, on behalf of myself and the group - I received NO posts, from people on or off list, objecting to my speaking for the group - so, I feel like we do deserve an answer to the question - I feel like my " tone " is getting " bitchy " and I really don't intend it to be - I simply would like an answer so we can move forward. I've run out of " funny material " on this subject <g> Thanks Tracey
