Guest guest
04/07/10 When these labs were taken, I had been taking 37.5 mcg SRT3, 5mg cortisol, 10,000 IU D3, 10,000mg B12, 170mg elemental iron, 1500 SR potassium, 2 t Himilayan salt per day. Also on several adaptogen combos with ashwaganda, rhodiola, and siberian ginseng (Holtorf proprietary). No T3 morning of the test. No other meds or supplements for 8 days prior (I figured 5mg cortisol wasn't enough to put me in danger if I just stopped it!). The one thing I did really miss was the iron... New labs after 6 weeks: FT3 311 (230-420 pg/dL) up from 278 RT3 95 (90-350 pg/mL) down from 329 D3 55 (20-100) up from 49 B12 835 (211-911 pg/mL) up from 555 (**UPS lost my cortisol saliva--grrr! and by the time it got to ZRT 11 days later, it was corrupted--doing it again next month) For what it's worth... am Fasting cortisol Cortisol, total 9.4 mcg/dL (4.6-20.6 mcg/dL) up from 8.3 Cortisol, free 0.33 (0.07-0.93 mcg/dL) up from 0.16 Progesterone 7.7 (3.3-28 ng/mL) down from 21.1 Ferritin 26 (10-291 ng/mL) up from 18 (I know this needs improvement) TIBC 312 (250-450 ug/dL) down from 351 UIBC 188 (150-375 ug/dL) down from 287 Iron, serum 124 (35-155 ug/dL) up from 64 Iron saturation 40 (15-55 %) up from 18 Sodium 140 (135-145 mmol/L) up from 136 Potassium 4.0 (3.5-5.2 mmol/L) up from 3.8 Additional labs from 01/20/10 not repeated: HDL 77 Tg 64 LDL 96 Fasting glucose 84 A1c 5.2 Magnesium, RBC 4.0 (4.0-6.4 mg/dL) TSH 1.73 FT4 1.2 (0.8-1.8 ng/dL) Thyroglobulin antibodies <20 Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies <10 Aldosterone 25 Testosterone, total 26 (2-45 ng/dL) Testosterone, free 2.4 (0.1-6.4 pg/mL) Leptin 21.7 At this point I have been following the protocol for about 8 weeks with the following changes. Since these tests, I have gotten some Isocort and and taking my 5mg of cortisol up by 1 pellet in the morning to 7.5mg. I am also taking 2 pellets noon'ish and 1 pellet midafternoon for a total of 15mg. Any more makes me feel very off (lightheaded, racy, etc.). I tried taking one before bed but it kept me awake. (I suspect low cortisol during the day and high at night--see above comment on lost cortisol saliva test!!!) I am working with a doctor at Holtorf and he wants to DECREASE my cortisol so I will be off the prescription soon enough (I only have a week left of 5mg and he has taken me down to 2.5 for a month then stopping). I can then dose Isocort as necessary. He is increasing my SRT3 to 50 for a week (I have a week left of the 37.5) then up to 62.5. I also have some Cynomel on order. He has also given me progesterone, 100mg to be taken at bedtime and stopping the day my period starts for a week. I managed to dodge the supplement sales-pitch this time around and will begin supplementation of non-proprietary (Holtorf) adaptogens. Thoughts from Val or Nick on progress? in LA (Los Angeles not Lousiana =^] )
Guest guest
> >Thoughts from Val or Nick on progress? Ferritin needs to come up a LOT before you can get anywhere. 150 to 200 of elemental iron a day split into 2 doses. You may be better off with the Cynomel than the SRT3 then as you can take that sublingual but with the SR you will have trouble avoiding the iron. 5mg of cortisol is more likely to cause problems than help, it may reduce your own production by more than it replaces. The adrenal group are better at this than I am, the second link below is their FAQ and that may help you http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ Their FAQ Web site is here http://faqhelp.webs.com/ Other than that things look like they are progressing but that ferritin will hold you back Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com
