I think the phrase 'emotional incontinence' is a great description of what

occurs. Of course, since the emotions are a result of brain function they

are also vulnerable to MSA.

Mom exhibited this early on, but it was the opposite of what others are

describing. We are a family that cuts up and clowns around a lot just as

our SOP. We constantlly razz each other and never ever let anyone forget

mishaps or foilables (is having a smart mouth inherited? contagious?)

Anyway, no matter whether something was mildly amusing or hysterically

funny, mom would get mega-tickled and laugh until tears flowed and she could

hardly breath. Of course, everyone else got infected with her laughter. We

would look at her sometimes and say, " Mom, it wasn't that funny! " but then

we would start laughing at how hard she was laughing and pretty soon we

were all out of control.

I counted it as a bright spot in an otherwise discouraging situation that

she had this 'laughter disorder. " Naturally, we now try as often as

possible to get her going purely as a form of entertainment for us all, not

to mention the lift that we all get just from having a good belly laugh.
