Dear ladies,

Had my lumpectomy on 9/13 and the surgeon took out roughly a golf-

ball sized cylinder of tissue. He stitched it all up nice and

didn't put in a drain so the cavity would fill with fluid, then with

tissue, and not creat a hole in the breast. (Which I really don't

care about, but he told my husband all of this after the surgery.)

We got the final path report yesterday and it seems that he got all

of the DCIS and got clean margins. So on to radiation.

My breast looks like it was slammed by a baseball bat (the lesion

was deep in it) and is quite swollen (the result of no drain). At

its peak I was having the sensation of milk letdown regularly, but

surprisingly little pain. Thank goodness, it's all out and I can go

on.

The best part was that he did this under what the anesthesiologist

called a MAC (amnesiac, heavy sedation, and lidocaine) and I didn't

have trouble coming out of the anesthesia. Last time I was at this

surgical center, it took my 3 hours to come out from the general (my

vascular system goes nuts and bp drops suddenly with no warning,

repeatedly). Can you believe that they remembered me there, two

years later? I don't think that fame (or infamy) at the surgical

center was what I was aiming for in life. ha ha.

I see the radiology oncologist next week. Can't believe what a

roller coaster ride this is.

Thanks for all the support,
