Guest guest
How many here are former vegans, vegetarians, or believers of the low fat gospel? Why did you start those programs? Why did you quit, and how did you get here? The problem I have with the low fat programs is that you initially lose weight and feel great. You have a lot more energy. But after some time you begin to feel tired, get moody and start to put weight back on. But however hard you try to get back to the initial " feel great " , the program doesn't seem to work. You always seem to go downhill. I had been struggling with fatigue, back about 1984. I had read Protein Power and tried it for a couple of weeks but didn't see any improvement. I read Atkins book too. But after having been warned that I had borderline high blood pressure someone gave me Pritikin's book. I also found " Eat to Win " in a bookstore. It seemed to help a bit with fatigue but I found most of the foods unappetizing. By 1992 I was 30 pounds overweight and suffering a lot of fatigue, had full blown high blood pressure. That is when I found a support group for Dr. McDougal on the Prodigy online service (pre-internet). Dr. McDougal had a radio show too in which he interviewed Dr. Dean Ornish. Both programs did works for me. I lost 30 pounds in about 4 months. I had a lot more energy, but it was only temporary. I spent years trying to get it back thinking there was something wrong with me. About a year ago I heard a local radio talk show about low carb. At first I thought the host was full of crap. How can the gubbermint (government) and all these scientist and researchers be wrong and this one person with a PhD in exercise and nutrition be right? But, I kept listening and he eventually was describing me. About a month later he refereed to Weston A. Price and Dr. Mercola. And that is how I got here.
