Guest guest
Hi Kathy, My Dad, when he had clients in hospitals, both short term and especially long term treatment and care, as standard procedure prescribed 8 to 16 oz of Cranberry juice every day. If they came in with really bad infections he would have them drink this juice twice a day. He used this as both a treatment, as well as a preventative. Its easy these days to find a Cranberry drink, 100% juice-no sugar added, that tastes halfway decent. They even have it available mixed with grape juice and it kinda tastes like a grapey wine to me...not that I get to drink wine that often...but you get the idea... I drink a glass of it every day now. Before, as a 'kid' I didn't think that I needed to, even after surgery...boy did I learn a lesson. It only took one sever bladder infection and unless I run out between paychecks, that Cranberry juice is taken each and every day. Cranberry is also available as a soft gel capsule from health food stores if you can't stand the taste of Cranberry juice. I don't personally know how effective it is in this form. I try to stay away from any of the drinks that have sugar added...too much sugar aids in yeast infections. The way that it works is by changing the Ph of the urine, thus the urine tracks Ph, creating a non-hospitable enviroment for the lovely cruddy bacteria. Stress has a way of causing our bodies Ph to shift towards an unhealthy inbalance (I can't remember if it is alkaline or the other one) anyways, its the wrong side of what we need our bodies to be in. And something in the Cranberry gets this balance back to the healthy side in the urine track. ?What could it hurt, other than having to drink a bitter drink twice a day in the beginning and than once a day ever after!!! ??? Well, just some food for thought... Get better!!!!!!!!!!! Gossimer Kathy, You have all the healthy, friendly vibes you can absorb!!! > from me and my family!!! > Let us know how it goes... > Gossimer > > > Thanks for the good vibes. It looks like it's yet another urinary tract infection. I've been having chronic problems off and on for the last 4 years or so. I've gone through a 6 month long course of antibiotics two times in the last 3 years to try to keep them away. ( The doctor is culturing it this time to see if it's something different from what was causing the problems about 3 years ago, which was the last time he cultured my urine. I'm tired of this crap. It's not helped by all the junk going on at work right now and the stress of the last 8 months with Mom getting sick and passing. My life has got to get better soon. Last year was the pits, so this year has got to be better. > > > > Kathy >^,,^< > KitzCat146@... > http://www.chaytongroup.com/modernbill/order/index.php?aid=ka081104 > http://www.heartwarmers4u.com/members/?kitzcat > kitzcat2001 on Yahoo Messenger > kitzcat on MSN Messenger > > In a cat's eyes, all things belong to cats. - English Proverb > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Guest guest
E. Coli is one of the most pesky ones for us with UTIs. Hoping you don't have the cellulitis. Re: Hi folks wrote: Kathy Why do you think that you have cellulitis? What symptoms on the skin or in the skin are you seeing to go with that fever and illness? I have seen cellulitis where I work on many occasions. Do you have swollen weepy boggy skin on the legs or anywhere else? Has the doc done a culture at this point in time today? I've had cellulitis before with little to no visible symptoms, just a high fever. My legs stay swollen from the lymphedema and I have venous stasis, so they are also discolored from the pooling of the blood. The only symptom is the skin around my left knee is very sensitive to touch, which isn't normal, and that's going away. I do have a urinary tract infection with blood also in the urine. I think that the last infection never fully went away and is rearing it's head again. The doc is running a urine culture this time to see what the problem is. I was on it 3 or 4 times!!!!!! I have been on so much stuff for the uti and the vaginal stuff I don't know what finally worked. I am still on a very low dosage of antibiotic for the uti, just 100 mgs daily. I would like to try to stop taking it but I am scared. I am leaving on a cruise next Saturday and I think after I return I will try to discontinue it and see what happens. Are you having any vaginal problems, or just urinary? Also, just this week I went and got some cranberry tablets from the health food store, and am taking 2000 mg a day, as a preventative measure. I think maybe you should try a different med. Honestly, I was on levaquin 3 or 4 times, and finally I said prescribe something else. I even had bladder surgery because I had some incontinence, so I was hoping that would help. I went into surgery with a uti, and post op, I still had an uti. I understand your frustration. My surgery was in August, and I have probably only been infection free for a few months. It was awful. It was for more than a year. I can not imagine going through it for as long as you have. I am so sorry. Marie So what did they do for you? I'm on 10 days of 500 mg. Levaquin and that's it. I took that last month too. Any suggestions? No, looks like just the UTI, which is responding to the Levaquin. 3 years ago it was proteus(sp?) that was the culprit. He just said it was bacterial this time too, but I have to go in for another urinalysis in about 2 weeks, so I'll take a look at my chart then to see what came back. I think he really wants to see if the blood has cleared up because I did have blood in the urine. Try taking 125 mcg every two or three hours all day long... no more than that at a time.. and about that far apart... it kicks up how the body cleanses the blood.... It might help... it's worked for me on MANY maladies... and it can't hurt.. as long as you don't take too much at one time... Vitamin C is water soluble.. it's passed out of the body in the urine, so it won't accumulate and you won't OD on it.. but taking too much at one time can cause stomach upset.. .and the body can't handle too much at once anyway, you just pee it out.. the trick is to take it frequently.... For a bad infection I kick it up a notch and drink peppermint tea.... suck down as much as I can hold... These two, in combination, have been our home cure since I was a week tyke... and a few years after my mom died I ran across an article describing how the combo of vitamin C and peppermint tea actually work in unison to fight infections. Topper () I've been taking 250 mg vitamin C tabs 3 to 4 times a day. I'm not a fan of peppermint tea, but I do believe I have some out in the pantry that has never been opened. I'll have to dig it out and see if I can deal with it. Do you drink it hot or cold?
