Guest guest
Time for you to take charge - obviously your sister didn't get symptomatic before diagnosis, but sounds as though you are! If your nurse is waiting for you to loose your eyebrows *before* she takes any notice of your complaints, then she's being negligent. So either get a new doctor immediately and request full thyroid screening and if it turns out you're hypo, find out *why*, i.e., make sure they test your thyroid antibodies to see if you have Hashimoto's as there are more dietary restrictions (i.e., no iodine) - OR you write down your list of symptoms (including thyroid disease is in your family), march back into that nurse and demand you be tested as otherwise there could be a negligence issue. After you get all that sorted out and if it turns out you're hypo, then have a look into Armour Thyroid instead of thyroxine - check ThyroPhoenix and search on-line for differences - many people feel it works better, although sometimes docs won't prescribe it. Also, once you start treatment, know that it'll be up to six weeks before you feel better! And what's worked for me also is going to a dietitian who is understanding about NO ENERGY and working with me to sort out what I can/can't eat for energy, thyroid disease and reducing weight. Best wishes. Donna in Oz.
