Guest guest
Liz, Regarding your question: " The other bad part is that Dr. H wants to do an arginine test next time. It sounds like it will be a horrible day. Any words of wisdom? " We didn't have our arginine test done by Dr. H, but here's what happened, if I remember correctly. Our endo. put emla cream on her arm where he was going to place the needle port. This numbs it so there is no pain. We waited about 45 min or 1 hr. and then he inserted the needle, drew blood, left the needle in place, and taped it down. Then he gave her medication and then thereafter took blood draws from the same needle area 3 or 4 times, about 45 min. or 1 hr. apart. One needle poke was all she had. We started 1st thing in the a.m. and were done by noon. It wasn't bad at all for us. We brought quiet things to do in the dr. office as we waited: coloring, sticker books, reading, etc. etc. But my daughter, at the time was 5. I could see it could be difficult if your child is very highly active. With Nate being only 2 1/2 yrs. old, I'm not sure what you can bring to " keep him occupied " - maybe something new to catch his interest? You're in a tiny room. But, I think the medication can make some kids drowsy, and some doze off or even sleep. Again, my endo is not Dr. H, so I'm not sure what she does that will be different. Hope this helps.
