Where I live (smallish village 1/2 way between London and Cambridge) we have a very good pre-school. I was advised that if I wanted DD1 to get a place I needed to put her name down nice and early - so I did. She is due to start in the term of her third birthday (ie after this Easter!) Unfortunately DD1 is a late August baby and I was suddenly told that she had to wait until Sept, because 'all the places are full', this despite being registered for ages. I then found out that children from outside the village had got places instead of her (their birthdays are late July). One of the main reasons for choosing to live in this area was because of the high standards of State education available at all levels (and this is truly reflected in the house prices). And then I'm told my daughter cann't start because her birthday is 21st August. I was fuming because I'd practically had to register her at conceptiuon but this is plain daft. I can feel a letter of complaint coming on. Sorry for the rant but the whole system is B****y ridiculous. Beverly
