I have some Spectrum brand palm oil I bought for Christmas baking. It now has an " off " smell that reminds me of some Crisco that went bad back in the old days... (tells you how often I used Crisco, even then--I think I only used it for pie crust and my mom's cookie recipes that called for half butter/half shortening or else the cookies didn't come out right... and having a sugar sensitive child I didn't bake cookies all that often!) Anyhow, I thought palm oil took a long time to go rancid. I don't remember the smell from when I was baking with it in December.
