Guest guest
Jen, Neither of the 2 CF centers we have been with have done IV antibiotics for sinus infections. Our old ENT would, then she got the bad end of the stick when was on IV tobra for 6 weeks and ended up with kidney damage. It really wasn't her fault as the cf docs were monitoring her levels and changing doses, but they blamed her for starting on them in the first place. What a mess, are you surprised we changed centers after that happened?(along with a bunch of other crap). Anyway, so here they do the sinus surgery and the bronch, then decide if she needs IV's based on how her lungs look. They can't tell by listening or chest x-rays, only by a bronch and I guess a chest CT...she has had one of those and it was when she was sick so it showed the areas of infection I guess. I don't know how much a chest CT costs but they aren't done routinely. oh and by the way, I called everyone about our new insurance and so the date for her surgery isn't set yet, we have to wait for them to reauthorize the CT scan with InstantTrac, the surgery, and the bronch. It should be done before school starts again I hope. (It better be!) love, M
