Not weird at all. Apple and garlic are naturally complementary. As are

apple and any one of the following (not all together) cheddar, gjetost, blue

cheese, curry (indian), pork (especially smoked and salted), chicken, liver,

etc.

I firmly believe that almost all savory flavors are improved by being

combined with sweet-tart fruits or vegetables. Similarly, I believe that

most sweet-tart fruits and vegetables are improved by being combined with

savory flavors. Contrast, variety and texture are key characteristics, and

those combinations go a long way toward creating those characteristics.
