, from what I have gathered thus far, seeing a psychologist for an

evaluation and a nutritionist for dietary counseling is quite standard in the

pre-surgery process. Naturally, different surgeons require different things

from their patients, but they all need to know that we are mentally,

emotionally and nutritionally prepared for what will inevitably be the

biggest physical change of our lives.

Just my two cents. Hang in there.

What a day you had at the doctor's office! Seems that you and the

surgeon have an agreement and all will be proceeding forward. Yes, the

meeting with the psychologist and nutritionist is pretty common. And, IMHO

helpful documentation for insurance approval.

The best to you!

As far as my situation went here in the US, YES, I had to see a psychologist and

a nutritionist as well as go to 2 meetings that dealt with the surgery.

Re: Been to see surgeon

Well guys as you know i went to see the surgeon today it did not start of to

well as he sent in his under study to see me to talk to me about having my gall

stones removed no mention of the w l s then he asked me how i was doing with my

weight so i said this is what i have come to see you about which he oviously

knew nothing about i did get a bit high rate with him so of he went to talk to

the sergeon then back he came to tell me that you have to fit the criteria to be

concided for w l s and although i am obese i am not mega obese and have no other

medical problems that it would be very unlikely that they would do it but if i

was to put more weight on then that would be differant, but im sorry at this i

started shouting at him and there was no way i could and that things were bad

enough as they were and i was sick and tiered of not being listen to and being

pushed to one side at this he proceeded to disappere again i must have done

something right as i finally got the attention of the surgeon who will do my

surgery i then proceeded to tell him that this is not a game i am very serious

about having this surgery and instead of trying to brush me off should hear what

i have to say by the end of the appointment he said he could tell i was serious

and had oviously looked into it all he would consider doing the surgery but

first of all i have to have my gall stones removed as he would not do both

surgerys together as there was a risk of cross infection to do both together in

case my gall bladder was infected so i agreed to that in the mean time he is

going to make me an appointment to see the dietition and phycologist or

something from what i can gather this is what they do and has made another

appointment to go and see him in three months time which i though was not to bad

i made it pretty clear that i will not wait years and he said he would not keep

me hanging around no longer that 6 mths so i left his office with a smile on my

face something i dont do very often so it goes to show they will try and fob you

off if you let them i feel quite strong today and am not going to let anything

spoile it thanks for all your prayers i think they did the job so tell me is

this normal to see the dietitan and phycolagist or not? hope to hear from you

soon

- Good for you! You stuck to your guns, and got some results. Many of us

over here in the states have to see a dietician and psychologist before getting

approval and surgery date. So it sounds good to me! So proud of you.

Please give your mum a hug for me. I know exactly what she is going through.

My original Dr. had me in tears yelling by me that if she ate cheeseburgers

she'd weigh 350 pounds too. She refused to help me other than send me to a

nutritionist for a diet plan to lose 2 pounds a month. MY LORD..... how

depressing is that. No incentive there. Of course I didn't follow with the

nutritionist. I changed DRs ASAP. Found a very very compassionate and

helpful DR who I love. I took in all the printed material I could find on

WLS and he told me it was my only option and he would support me 100%.

Please have your mum find a new Dr.

well i did go to the doctors with my mum and i must say he was the most arragant

so and so i have ever met he would not write and refere her to the surgeon just

told he basicly she was fat and oviously ate to much as she tried to explane she

did not eat a great deal because of her diabetes she limited herself and

probably was not eating enough he was having none of it he told her to not eat

at all i asked him if he would give her a liquid diet then and he refused to do

that as well she asked about her diabetes if she did not eat and he told her she

would be ok he had my mum in tears how i did not knock him off his chair i do

not know then contadicted his self by saying she would not be having these

problems if she had to lose weight so she says she is not going to eat no more i

am going to see about her changing her doctor today so will see what i can do

there will keep you informed
