Guest guest
My husband too likes just the flowers. He likes them up in his salads. The refrigerator is full of what I call " beheaded " broccoli. I eat as many of the stems as I can, but it's hard to keep up! -Linnea >> So if I buy 2 pounds of organic broccoli I would be getting a 1-1/2 of unusable stems. <<
Guest guest
Sounds like a great opportunity to make cold broccoli soup! Puree in a blender... follow your favorite recipe.

I would rather have the worms than the pesticide sprays put on commercial stuff to prevent them-if you put them in water, they will come right off-they don't eat much I often put them in a water with a little apple cider vinegar in it. >
Guest guest
my mother used to use warm water to soak the broccoli in and added salt to it... the worms just floated to the top
Guest guest
Would that be to kill 'em or to pickle 'em, Bren? Re: Broccoli Stems I often put them in a water with a little apple cider vinegar in it.

Guest guest
Soaking it in salt water helps kill the little critters too....they are just part of nature and while it is gross you will be able to remove all of them.
