Guest guest
It's so good to have someone online at the same time! Connor is on Flucoxicillin and now amoxocillin aswell. His cough is awful! He has a big deep cough but doesn't bring anything up but I can hear stuff there. I've done physio SO many times today and trying to make him cough - letting him cry for a while helps. Hopefully it will be better in the morning. I've only just got him down and I'm exhausted as is out tonight, I've got another little boy here and he and Jayden have also only gone to sleep. Guest guest
Kristy, When Eilish gets c chesty cough, we put her on antibiotics for 10 days and then if say by half way through there is no improvement then we make an appt at clinic. Maybe he's caught the virus as they are easy to catch. When Eilish is on Ventolin it makes her cough whilst she has the mask on but not when she doesnt have it on. Eilish doesnt have temps. or she doesnt slow down when she has a cough, so I dont know if the temp. thing could be used as a guide. What antibiotics is Connor on? Any advice?? > or anyone else, > Connor has developed a bad cough today. He's had a moist one for a couple of days but he had only been coughing once a day and it wasn't persistant or getting worse. Just seemed like he was coughing up what ever was in his lungs. Today, though, it has become very chesty but not awfully moist. His chest seems very congested and sometimes his breathing sounds croaky, if that makes sense. It's like when he wheezes but a croaky sound. He has been coughing a lot. I started him on extra antibiotics today but I'm not sure if maybe it's an adverse reaction to the ventolin he is now on. I did give him two doses today so maybe that is the cause of his cough. His doctors told me that up until six months the ventolin can do more harm than good so maybe that is what is happening? His brother has had a cough for a few days but his was only viral and now gone. Connor hasn't had a temp, is eating fine and is his normal self. He did have his immunisation yesterday but I doubt that has anything to do with it. > Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. , do you think I should call the hospital or wait and see how he goes on the antibiotics? > Thanks in advance > Kristy > > > > PLEASE do not post religious emails to the list. > > > ------------------------------------------- > > > The opinions and information exchanged on this list should > IN NO WAY > be construed as medical advice. > > PLEASE CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN BEFORE CHANGING ANY MEDICATIONS OR TREATMENTS. > > -------------------------------------------------- > > >
Guest guest
Kristy, If you think he's sounding awful then call (is that who you see) and maybe take him in on Monday if he;s no better. Better to get on top of stuff than let it do damage. The physio once told us that doing physio five times a day (which we were when Eilish was ill) wasnt going to really improve a bad cough much more than three times. Eilish doesnt cough anything up she swallows it but at least its not in her lungs. Im still on line to as is doing physio and Liam is lying at my feet here.Hasnt the rain been bad today. Driving home from work tonight I had to stop as I couldnt see a thing. Guest guest
Connor doesn't cough up stuff either but I can hear when he coughs it out of his lungs. This stuff doesn't move unless he has a real harsh cough. I will go in on Monday if he's not any better. My GP, who knows about cf etc, checked his lungs yesterday and they were clear. Do you think they could get bad overnight? I'm probably worrying to much but this time his cough doesn't sound viral. We also had that awful rain. I called home early from work as I thought the back of our house was going to flood! Luckily the rain stopped just as the water got to the doors. The kids (in care) were ratty all day as they couldn't go outside. I've bought Jayden a raincoat and gum boots so he can play in the rain but the other two don't have anything so it's not fair on them. Guest guest
Kristy, Dr said that because their lungs sound clear does not mean they dont have mucus in them. Eilish's lungs have always sounded clear. We dont use our gp for Eilish we just talk with on the phone and then take her in if needed. A viral cough can sound chunky the worse it gets as thats what Eilish had last time was a virus, and of course she picked up a virus whilst in the hsp. Is at a work thing tonight. goes to a fair few work things. He's going away in August for 9 days to Queensland with the Cf Adults as a helper for the cf conference. Guest guest
I asked if we could once but none of the pulmonary guys see cf patients anywhere but childrens hsp. There is a private hsp. in Gawler so that would have been good. Re: Any advice?? > , > Have you ever looked into going to a private hospital for IV treatments? I know they wouldn't have the physio's, specialist etc but if it's only for a tune up would that matter?? > Kristy > > > > PLEASE do not post religious emails to the list.
Guest guest
Kristy, You can take anything in there. I always bring Eilish's stuff, as she either doesnt like there food or they way they make it. They usually forget to send her up either lunch or dinner so we go to Mcs, so you need to take money with you thats for sure. Re: Any advice?? > > You'd certainly want your child to be a good eater wouldn't you! If Connor is anything like Jayden (fussy) he'd probably lose weight being in there! > As for Connor, I think he is slowly getting better. He hasn't been coughing as much today but I'm a bit unsure as it's only a small improvement. I've had him in the bathroom breathing steam and jumping in his jolly jumper all day! I just want his cough to clear up over night but I guess I have to get used to these things getting better slowly. As long as it is getting better and not worse. > Kristy > PS Are you allowed to sneak food (ie. junk) into the hospital? > > > > PLEASE do not post religious emails to the list.
Guest guest
, Another question.....when Eilish has a cough, does it take a while to get better, that is if it gets better without ivs? I'm sure Connor's cough is getting better but it's taking a long time. It's only day four today so I guess I should expect it to take another day or so if it is viral. When Eilish has needed iv's, has her cough gotten worse during normal antibiotics or is it a matter of it just not going away? I'm so hoping that it will clear up over the weekend otherwise I'll take him in get checked out. When did Eilish first get admitted? I thought you said she cultured pa at 18 months but was she in before that? Thanks Kristy
Guest guest
Kristy, Hardly ever has her cough gone away without IV's, I think this is only the 2nd time. She was first admitted at 6 mths for a cough she had for 6 weeks. I'd taken her to casualty about 5 times and they kept saying her chest was clear. Eventually we saw and he put her in.
