Depending on which acidophilus you buy, there can be anywhere from a million to billions of bacteria per scoop/capsule. You want one with several different bacteria, and the more the merrier. Kirkman labs makes excellent acidophilus. I use this daily with my son with Down Syndrome. www.kirkmanlabs.com Also, please keep them refridgerated. You might check with a local chiropractor, some carry them, or a HFS, but be sure they have been kept in the fridge...... Hugs, Can anyone attest to the efficacy of Acidophilus tablets? I have been on long-term antibiotic treatment due to internal, abdominal abscesses probably stemming from my RNY surgery in December of 2001. Since antibiotics can also kill the beneficial bacteria living in our intestinal tract, my doctors have instructed me to eat plain yogurt at least twice daily to restore the flora and fauna lost to the antibiotics. Although I like yogurt, too much of a good thing is beginning to change my mind, not to mention all the unwanted carbs I'm getting from the yogurt. Yesterday, I discovered that Acidophilus tablets are available as a dietary supplement. That coud be a better alternative for me but only if they are as effective as the plain yogurt. Does anyone have any experience with or information on Acidophilus tablets? Plain yoghurt has too much sugar in it (unless you make it yourself and then " cook " it for 24 hours - see Elaine Gottshalk's book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle " - or hunt it up on the internet).
