Rosemary; as I am primarily Spanish ancestry with some Portuguese and some

Ital

ian, I can tell you that we get BOTH sickle cell disease and thalassemia and

G6PD

deficiency--all similar, that Africans and African Americans do get cf, in

part because

of the historic mixtures created by colonization--everywhere. I'll send you

a web site

on The Human Genome Project, though it just looks at all proteins and

enzymes, not demographics. I'll send this first, love,

n Rojas

What is thalassemia? It has been mentioned that it is Mediterranean in

origin, and the three we adopted are Greek and Italian. Boy do the girls

look it too. Any way, Texas usually makes the kids be tested genetically

before they are adopted, but ours were so little then, and the doctors

didn't know about their familial back grounds. Does any one have a web addy

for this?

Thanks,

Dawn mom of 4 who are 5, 4, 2, and 7 months, the youngest with cf.
