I hear you regarding the freedom we should have to decide for ourselves what we

do, including what we eat.

Again I'm a die hard Libertarian believing that people should be able to make

their own mistakes (and pay the consequences) and have minimal government. (Also

that private enterprise should handle ALL in a society with open free

markets...let Adam s invisible hand dictate, I am ish by the way. ) It

is however, a whole lot more work for most people to follow these tennets, since

it requires more time educating oneselves.

Our learned forefathers did not think we could do it on a day to day bases and

selected a representative government rather than a democracy so we could elect

educated people to do our " thinking " work, freeing us so we could do our day to

day tasks... don't take it the wrong way.

Along the way society came up with some common sense addendums. Example: the

1st amendment gives you the right to say any word you wish, as long as you dont

yell FIRE incorrectly in a crowed room, (otherwise you may find yourself in some

hot water :-)

Yes, we should be able to eat and do what ever we want, but in our compassionate

society, if you get deathly ill from your adventure in freedom, society will be

picking up the hospital bill, and in more dire situations, provide you with a

stiphend for life and possibly support for your dependents (not saying its much

but still its there) . Since society, ie the government, is providing you a

basic safety net, they feel they have the right to minimize the risk... Only

fair isnt it? Hence their establishing rules that they feel will in the long run

reduce risk.

Yes, from time to time scoundrels may create a personal benefit, but eventually

the Truth does out. And over all things kinda work in a favorable fashion,

compaired to other alternatives available in other countries. Just because we

have it better than most is no reason to coast either though, and not continue

in our maintenance of government and procedures to correct little glitches. What

Venezuela did recently is an alternative, and perhaps the US people are not as

active as some Latin American neighbors. :-)

I'm sure there are nuances that we could discuss all day, and it would be fun as

a side line, ,,

But just want to remind that the initial intention was to find ways of getting

what we want , ie permission to drink " raw " milk and utilize it in our daily

lifes.. and subsequent allow our good neighbor in La Belle Acres to practice and

teach (for pay) her artisan skills and sell her production.

I could be wrong, but I think addressing the point rationally with the proper

folks WITH the supporting evidence will get the results everyone wants.

The milk radio show advertises that they will touch on the growth of milk to it

present day position, incluidng social, and industrial themes. It could be

enlightening, and since it is a call in show, it may even provide a forum to

start from. At the least the guest panel on the show may be able to help with

references, corroboration or insight to the cause.

VIVA' la Revolucion!

down with the imperialist...up with the people!

I don't think Bianca was arguing for a conspiracy. Many times what we

take to be conspiracies are actually groups of people all

individually following their self interest. It only looks like a

conspiracy.

Have you ever studied public choice theory? " Tennessee " is not an

actor, here or in any other case. The actors here are legislators who

passed certain laws to ingratiate themselves with some group of

consumers or producers, and officials of the TN Dept. of Agriculture

who are ingratiating themselves with their bosses.

Right. The problem is that everyone legislates beyond their own

expertise. Legislators can't know everything. They get educated by

lobbyists from industry and consumer groups (like us!). But faced

with contradictory claims, they will take the path of least risk.

Above all, they will not let the consumer decide. The nature of

government is that imposes one-size-fits-all solutions.

you're right. But the system itself doesn't encourage Right. The

market encourages right, because people want to live. There's nothing

wrong with millions of people voluntarily making themselves guinea

pigs for raw milk.
