Guest guest
actually three groups come to mind, Georgians of the Caucasus Mountains in Southern Russia that supposedly were avid horsemen into extremely late in life and big yougurt eaters. If memory serves thats were the big popular yogurt eating push came from. Vilcabamba Indians of the Ecuadorean Andes. Kinda isolated The other was the Himalayan group Hunza that it was suspected got there long life from drinking the milky mineral rich glacial water. National Geo did mag articles on them as well as other research journals. It was later 'discovered " that both parties were trying hard to please researchers and answered in ways to concur with the researchers theories. when all was done, it came out that although they were very healthy and generally robust, but it wasnt in a greatly skewed way, ie people werent all centarians as originally thought....more in their 60's Still good, but not earth shaking. here is the list of " secrets " compiled from these three groups for what its worth. 1. Exercise regularly and consistently 2. Don't use preservatives or artificial colorants 3. Eat a frugal diet, high in fibber, low in salt, fat and refined sugars and rarely fry in oil. 4. Drink water with a high mineral content, from a well or mountain streams. 5. Consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. 6. Never experience loneliness. 7. Practice holistic medicine, using traditional herbs and medicines to prevent and cure disease. 8. Enjoy regular sex, even up to the age of 100. :-) 9. Live in extended families, which offer cradle to grave security 10. Seldom drink or smoke. 11. Live at high altitudes with little air pollution. 12. Respect their elders, who lead busy active lives into their 1oo's emphasize relationship bad harmony over the pursuit of wealth or success. ----- Original Message ----- From: bianca3@... The rest, if true, is very discouraging as we base our dietary choices on researches like that. BTW, by whom was it later discovered that the " fact " about them weren't true? Guest guest
when rsearchers started noticing conflicting stories from the same person told to different researchers... it started to become apparent that perhaps the original investigation wasnt as un biased as thought. Like most people, they were flattered by the attention and as soon as they realized what the attention was based on they naturally helped it along. Some of the people also started the incongruities by not playing along with others that were more flamboyant. You know how some people are,,,little hints , winks etc started tipping the researchers off. Some regarding the Huzan claim that the very presence of the researchers started affecting the mountain Shangri-la vilage, changing the eating habits, and actually polluting the area and changing the habits of the people. Some on going research is still being done on old water samples since the present samples dont seem to have the same quality. Most longevity researchers have come to the conclusion that there are many many variables at play... genetics, food, lifestyle are but a few. There are many supposed secrets to longevity and concepts to practice but unfortunately not enough tme has passed to give them any serious credence... some of the more exotics is snake venom ingested regularly and a tonic made from ones own urine. Makes raw liver and fresh goatmilk seem tame by comparrison. Some of the healthfood gurus may appear energetic, but have the same grey hair and other symptoms of aging. Growth hormones seem to be the most indicated so far by skin elasticity, energy level and other indicators,,,but we need to see its longer term effect. For now its a matter of picking your " poison " and sticking to it... and see if it works for you. I personally am totally confused and dont think well ever get a straight answer because of individual differences in physiology between us. One organic chemitry group proves spinach in its raw state provides good nutrients but is actually low level poison in cooked state, Another groupd swears its the opposite. One group acknowledges distilled water with a certain ionic charge is healthiest for cells, another claims it leaches essentials from the cells. :-) who can say?! once again, moderation in all things seems to be the ticket. Let your body choose from the smorgasburg what it wants and discard the rest. What exactly is " it " ? I guess you determine that yourself over a long term and what abilities you have... :-) BTW, have you ever noticed how long a super processed, preservative rich TWINKIE lasts? I think that may be highly significant.
