Guest guest
<holds hand up> I do, it works fine, and although I could claim back the £15 in phone calls to be honest I don't. System is, you pay £15 a month which gets you £15 worth of cheap telephone calls and free Internet access 24/7. You can buy a switch box, which diverts all your calls onto the NTL network, or you can choose to type in 1263 before the phone number which does the same thing, or you can do what I do which is to completely forget about it and then never make ntl phone calls. I am still charged the £15 though. Unfortunately the boxes don't like my combination of phone/modem/extension and won't register otherwise we would have used them. And an added bonus is you pay for what you have used - no budget plans here. Your phone bills are all handled online - you don't get any paper bills at all, and you don't pay line rental to ntl, just the phone calls. You continue to pay line rental to BT though. I have never had a problem with going online, the system does chuck me out regularly but with the computer set to an automatic dial up that isn't too much of a problem and in my experience it only kicks you out if your line isn't used for more than 10 minutes (i.e. reading emails but not sending them). If I am downloading I get 2 hours uninterrupted, and as I use SmartDownload, cutting out in the middle isn't a problem either cos I can just resume my downloads. I like the service to be honest and it saves me in excess of £90 a month. Of course moving to Cyprus means that I am going to have to go back to paying for the internet again. Thats going to be really hard, only softened by the fact that we will have more income to feed my obsession. But the NTL service has always been nothing short of brilliant for me. And £15 a month is a small price to pay for completely unlimited access to the net without guilt. Sue having said that I won't be able to go online ever again now. Guest guest
I really don't understand this. How come I actually have my phone with NTL and I have'nt got access to this deal? My phone bill was over £100 this month, yes month, and I was about to consider getting a 2nd BT line so I could hook up with one of the freeserve deals. This is so stupid, I'm off to phone NTL and moan!!! Guest guest
I suspect that it's to do with the fact that they already have your business and so have nothing to gain by offering you free internet access. Those of us using the free service were probably not existing customers of theirs and so they have acquired a considerable amount of business which they would not otherwise have had by using their siren techniques! And it works. Alison I really don't understand this. How come I actually have my phone with NTL and I have'nt got access to this deal? Guest guest
AFAIK it is a separate deal to the ntl cable and phone network. We have ntl cable television and an ntl phone line as a second line, but interestingly I can't transfer the free service onto that number without reregistering. My dad however has ntl cable recently installed, and two ntl phone lines, one personal and one computer, and is delighted with the service. And he has the free access. We jumped on the bandwagon before it was launched and I got my CD about three weeks before the free access was opened. I felt very smug for quite a long time, when people were saying it takes 3 months to get a CD. And BTW my dad has just got a fantastic deal on his cable subscription - much better than ours, but we haven't been offered anything special at all. He had to ask for it specifically when changing some of his packages Sue Lesley wrote: > I really don't understand this. Guest guest
Interesting. We have had a cabletel/ntl phone line since 1995 when they first dug up our estate! DH applied for NTLworld as soon as it was advertised early last year and they sent us and got us up and running 5 days *before* the official launch date! Second telephone line set up at about the sometime and digital TV since October half term last year. No probs at all and total bill for the 2 lines plus full TV package minus sports and films last month was £62.00 incl. Sorry, not helpful at all to some of you. Just goes to show NTL can't get their story straight! AFAIK it is a separate deal to the ntl cable and phone network. Guest guest
Yep but when I applied for ntlworld, our second phone line was Cable and Wireless. C & W got gobbled up by ntl and although we are slowly going over to all the ntl freebies, like free local calls between ntl phones they haven't managed incorporate everything yet. Hence the need to reregister. I'm not bothered now as we are off to Cyprus in 10 weeks. Sue heather hadley wrote: > Interesting. Guest guest
But they are telling me that C & W network needs something doing to it before internet calls thru NTL will work and they have now pushed back the date for NTLWorld to late spring (as opposed to March last time I rang). They have just signed me up to a 1p per minute capped rate for daytime internet use but in the meantime think I might reactivate our BT line and sign up for something else - does anyone use BT Anytime or the Freeserve one where you pay £15 per month? Guest guest
> Does anybody use the ntl free internet > with £15 voice calls per month deal? We tried this, but they are not able to offer it in our area, something to do with our exchange. Ring back in 6 months time they said.
