Guest guest
Maca is said to be very helpful for menstrual problems. Actually, it's good for many problems. It's an adaptogen and helps rebalance the whole endocrine system. For more info, go to http://www.wholeworldbotanicals.com/royalmaca.html . Be sure to read their Detailed Information section. Guest guest
>>> Hi Suze, I was having " menstrual " pain for about a week and a half before my period. ***Ouch! Mine doesn't start until the moment I start menstruating, so I guess I have little to complain about. >>>> NO breast tenderness. ***That's amazing! Sometimes I get it much worse than others...but come to think of it, now that I've been somewhat NT/WAPish, I don't recall it being as bad as 'normal' and really not that noticaeble at all the last few cycles. >>>>I drink about a quart of raw milk per day, about 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil (from Radiant Life), three gel caps of evening primrose oil, and 3 gel caps of borage oil. ****ARe you keeping track of vit D intake? A teaspoon a day of CLO *plus* a quart of milk seems like a lot, but I'm not sure what an *optimal* intake might be, for you, for me, for anyone. I'm not actually sure I could drink a whole quart of mik a day because 1) i don't eat much in general (and the milk would displace something else I would normally eat), and 2) I get goat's milk which would make it a $3.50/day habit if I drank a quart per day! But, before NT I didn't drink milk at all, except a dollop of half and half in my coffee, and now I drink about a glassful a day. Also, prior to reading about vit D in " wise traditions " and elsewhere I wasn't taking any cod liver oil, but now toss down a few caps or so each week. So perhaps with just these small moves in the right direction, I might be able to reduce some of the menstrual pain. But I know the GLA is a key in the inflammation (bloating and cramping) and I don't yet eat organ meats (rich in DGLA) nor do I take primrose or borage oil. Hmm...I might figure out some combo of the above. i *really* don't want to take more unsaturated oils than is absolutely necessary due to the damage that can be caused by peroxidation of these oils. I guess all directions point toward organ meats... >>> Dr. Byrnes has a good article on the WAP site on menstrual stuff. I printed out the foods that are helpful and am trying to add them in as much as possible. ***Oh, I don't think I've read that one. Thanks for pointing it out. >>>Like I said, I hope the improvement continues and hope you feel better too ***THanks! I hope you continue to improve as well Suze Fisher Web Design & Development http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3shjg/ mailto:s.fisher22@... Guest guest
Just thought I'd share my experiences as they night be helpful to someone... I have always had PMS...lots of bad cramping, breat tenderness, mood swings, fatigue, slight rise in body temperature, heavy flow, etc... Starting a few years ago, I slowly began to clean up my diet, first was eliminating sugar and alot of processed foods. Then as I got more serious about my diet and made further changes, I began to see improvements. I began eating mostly whole natural foods and very little sweetner (small amounts of honey and stevia are OK for me), started taking Schulze's Superfood, did his bowel cleanse and liver flush, along with a more vegetarian slanted diet. I had my symptoms slowly start to disappear. I was still eating alot of starches, but most were whole grain. I was taking NO herbs or other suppliments and that was the shocker for me...all of this was accomplished by diet alone. I still had mild-moderate cramps sometimes. This past fall, I started eating even more whole grain (properly prepared) things NT style and alot more cooked protein, and the interesting thing is that some of my PMS symptoms started returing that had been gone for a while. At the beginning of this year, I made further changes to my diet, along the lines of what Henry Bieler recommends, particularly no starches or sugars, no heavily cooked protein (more on the rare or raw side), and lots of sodium rich vegetables. I would say that the only symptoms I have now are very, very slight cramps that are not a problem compared to what I used to have and slight fatigue. That's it! No mood swings, breat tenderness, etc....!! I've been on a mostly raw diet the past couple of months and it is really helping. I only have very tiny amounts of unheated honey or stevia, some dried fruit of whole fresh fruit. And very little grain if any. I've been taking Radiant Life's cod liver oil since last fall, so that may have helped. And just recently started on their Coral Legend, and SP's Catalyn. I've started drinking dandelion root tea as I've been learning that helping the liver can alleviate alot of symptoms (see Bieler's book). What had started out as me looking for a " natural remedy " for my PMS, evolved into learning about the power of a good diet and how that really addresses the root of the problem. And I plan on staying mostly raw for a long time as the benefits I'm getting are wonderful (No more digestive problems like indigestion or gas, very clear skin, no fatigue, proper weight, etc..). Digestion and liver function are the main areas to focus on in my opinion...get those areas working great and I'd be really surprised if you still have a problem. For me, overcooked proteins, and lots of starches and sugars caused my digestive distress and put undue burdens on my liver. Hope this helps, Becky
Guest guest
<<< I always thought that one needed either evening primrose OR borage, not both Please clarify? Sonja >> The recommended dosage is six capsules of either one or the other, so I take three of each per day. Interestingly borage has twice the amount of GLA than the evening primrose.
