Guest guest
I am in no way an expert on all this. Still learning. But it would seem to me if you are in the very top of the range, you may want to look at something else being out of whack like your adrenals, or other hormones. Other things can mimick the symptoms of hypo. If you are really completely well replaced and even having symptoms of too much, you might want to check out other areas. Need advice with lab results vs doses- Im going a little nutz I posted earlier about the phentermine diet pills... I am NOT going to try them. Too many scarry posts about side effects for me! BUT now I need help. I KNOW I should be thinking of dosing to symptoms rather than test results, but I keep listening to the doc when he says I am at the upper end of the range and he is afraid of a heart attack if we push it farther. Tell me: Do you still keep upping your meds even when the test results show you are way up at the upper end of the normal range? I am hypo, due to RAI which totally obliterated my entire thyroid function. That was 20 years ago. I am on 200 Synthroid, as the armour never worked for me. But the synthroid isnt so great either. Maybe I need to up, up, up the dose no matter how high the tests results look? What are other people doing who continue to feel like crap (I swear I have every hypo symptom) even when the tests look good? My TSH is zero, free T4 and Free T3 are both at the high end of normal. Actually, I am pretty sure that the next time I go in for tests I will be over the top as I am starting to feel a tiny bit of heart racing now and then. Sorry for the long post. I just feel like hell and really want something good to happen. Im too tired. This cant be good. My main question: Do you still push meds even if your labs are way up there?? Guest guest
Hi, Have you had your Adrenals tested? Are you taking selenium? I know that even though very hypo just awhile back the symptoms were not as bad, as I was taking an Adrenal supplement which my doc doesn't like me taking. It makes life for me better and until I am at optimum for my meds then, and only then will I taper that off. I also eat 2- 5 brazil nuts daily which helps with conversion of t4 to t3 and even if your t4 is in the upper range it wont matter if the conversion is not happening as it should. If you are having palps then take things slowly as you can over dose and your body must be your guide. How are you sleeping? Are you taking an after lunch rest if you are tired? Also, have you had an allergy test? I did and it returned negative but the naturopath took me off dairy and things have improved greatly. I say this for you to check what you are eating as that can also have a negative affect on the body and make it work harder than it needs to. Guest guest
I am NOT an expert - but from what I have read, in your case I think you might want to research the idea of backing off of some of your T4 (lower the dose) for a while, then add in a very minute fraction of T3 (either cytomel which is synthetic T3, or Naturethroid (the hypoallergenic natural thyroid that is like armour but without the known allergins, or armour, or westthroid (like Armour - made by same company that makes Naturethroid - Western Research Labs.) With your good numbers, I don't think adding more T4 (synthroid) sounds good. Search online for articles from Dr. Blanchard, or find his book " what your doctor may not tell you about Hypothyroidism " and see if what he says helps you. He describes how he backs off the amount of T4 when adding T3 for some of his patients. Now buffer my info with the fact that I'm not treated for my stuff yet - but I am only trying to point you at things to read so you can take it to your doctor. I don't self medicate. Hugs and let us know how you do!! -Lynn > > I posted earlier about the phentermine diet pills... I am NOT going > to try them. Too many scarry posts about side effects for me! BUT > now I need help.
