Guest guest
Hi Tambra: Graves disease is a form of Hyperthyroidism (the thyroid is over working). The throid-stimulating antibodies bind to and stimulate the TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) receptors of the thyroid gland. Graves disease is an autoimmune disorder. The trigger for this autoimmune response is not known. It may have several causes: genetic factors and immunologic factors. It often causes a goiter (enlarged thyroid). Tests that confirm Graves disease are increased serum T3 and T4 (blood tests). You should also have your TSH level checked and your thyroid hormones (a big culprit for hives is elevated thyroid hormones). Hope this helps. ~Ramona~ > Hi again, > > I keep seeing thyroid mentioned and I have a question or two. I was looking back at some notes and my gp has " Graves Disease ? " atleast I think that's what it says. Any takers on this mystery? All of my thyroid test have come back different (low, high, normal). Is there more than one way to test for thyroid? I did print out some info that Barb sent but I didn't quite understand it - I'm hoping my new doctor will. Any help will be greatly appreciated! > > Tambra
