Guest guest
Magnesium oxide is basic and shouldn't be given unless you know she has enough stomach acid. Only oral magnesium is laxative. If she needs looser stools, increase the Mg malate dose. Andy > Andy or anyone, > Reagan is taking magnesium malate and also has a magnesium sulfate > cream. Should we also be giving her magnesium oxide? We have this from > Kirkman but all the different magnesiums confuse me. Andy, you had > suggested magnesium to help move her bowels. Guest guest
Mag chloride or mag citrate tend to be the best at loosening stools. Malate doesn't seem to do as much with that, at least not in the toxic kids I know who take it. Perhaps that's because it's busy binding with aluminum. If it were my child, I'd have her mag levels tested to see if she needs all that extra magnesium. It's hard to overdose on it but a waste of money if she doesn't need it. Magnesium oxide is definitely not very available at all, and will tend to cause diarrhea. I'm told magnesium glycinate is the most absorbable form (I don't have the URL handy, but I did read a long article with a bunch of graphs and citations, but I don't remember what forms it compared glycinate to) and I seem to tolerate that quite well, but I do know a couple people who have trouble even with the glycinate. Ideally I'd rather get my magnesium from animal food sources, but to date I unfortunately haven't found anything good enough to replace the pills. -
Guest guest
Check this out - http://www.krispin.com/magnes.html I've heard others to comment very positively on some liquid forms (I believe they were citrates). Guest guest
Amy, I use magnesium taurate from cardiovascular research from the Vitamin Shoppe. If it's not in the right form it won't be absorbed and could cause diarrhea as well. It's important to get enough. We used it for yrs with little benefit then went up to 60 percent of the rda and now see results.
