I agree, ! Controlling the government is dangerous, because control can slip, and even if those in control truly were well-meaning, they can still be mistaken. Everyone thought I was crazy to be leery of ultrasounds because they are *known* to be perfectly harmless. Yeah, I answered, that's what they used to say about x-rays during pregnancy! Anyway, consensus is impossible: Look at the differences of opinion just on this list, and we're a support group and all essentially agree on things! Control of government would be - IS - all too easy to keep out of the hands of ideologues, or wrest from them if somehow they gained control, because there's always another point to clarify or discuss to death. (Oh, hey, but not anyone on *this* list of course.) ;-) What we need is a truly free market, with government's role reduced to ensuring accurate disclosure of ingredients and production methods, and reduced completely out of my pocketbook and freezer! ~ Carma ~ To be perpetually talking sense runs out the mind, as perpetually ploughing and taking crops runs out the land. The mind must be manured, and nonsense is very good for the purpose. ~ Boswell Carma's Corner: http://www.users.qwest.net/~carmapaden/

But we don't even need government doing that much. since by its very nature it will eventually attempt to do much more. And when you have the legal monopoly on force, it is just a matter of time before you get your way. Better to let private groups (of whatever makeup) determine ingredients and production methods, the free market as you say. If we find someone who doesn't want to disclose, then we just don't buy from them. Or if we don't care, we do buy from them!. That is how a free society operates.
