Guest guest
Suze, Could you post your morning shake recipe? TIA FWIW, I think raw liver from feedlot steer is basically what you get at the grocery store, isn't it? I bought some and asked here if I should eat it and someone said emphatically, no! So I fed it to my dogs. They lived. ;-) C. ----- Original Message ----- From: Suze Fisher Sent: Friday, May 31, 2002 6:56 AM Subject: raw liver revisited hey there WAPers, OK, i had my first 'serving' of raw liver yesterday. I put about a teaspoon of pureed raw liver in my morning shake, and was thrilled that I couldn't *taste* it! I thought that i'd better start with baby steps. Had I had my raw goat's milk, yesterday would've been a very good day for my foray into adding more raw animal foods to my diet because i had my raw egg yolk and some partially raw steak as well. (broiled on the outside - raw on the inside). I had a little 'air' in my system later in the day (Ok, gas actually - mostly a little belching) but am not sure if it was connected to the liver, or if my belt was too tight! <g> So here's where I'm at...i'm consuming raw milk regularly, have been consuming raw egg yolks regularly for about 3 weeks, and maybe 1-2 times a week consume partially raw steak. I don't think my gut is in 'optimal' condition, which is why i'm taking it slowly. I could easily add a small amount of raw liver to my shake every day, but am thinking i shouldn't do it every day at this early stage, until my gut adjusts. I only have a small supply of grass-fed liver, but now that it's almost summer, will have access to grass-fed liver and other organs fairly regularly, and would like to add more raw organs to my diet on a regular basis. So, my questions are: --any suggestions on how frequently i should eat raw liver now as i'm just starting out? --what are obvious signs that it would be causing any problems? stomach pain? diarrhea? what? --for those of you who consume raw liver fairly regularly, how much do you consumer per week? I think i recall that sally recommends 3-4 ozs./wk for pregnant women? what about folks who aren't pregnant? --does anyone eat raw liver from feedlot steer? if so, how often? any problems? (hmm...i think i've asked this before) --does anyone eat raw liver from *partially* grain-fed steer? from local farms, perhaps? how often? (most of my winter supply is hay/grain-fed, and i'm not sure if i should be eating it raw). TIA Suze Fisher Web Design & Development http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3shjg/ mailto:s.fisher22@... Guest guest
>>>>Could you post your morning shake recipe? TIA ***Darn, i thought i already did, but don't see it in the archives. i remember writing it out. oh well, here it is - most amounts are approximations because i don't measure anything: 8-12 oz. raw goat's milk (or yogurt, or both) 1-2 raw egg yolks 1/2 cup berries (usually blueberries, but sometimes includes raspberries, cranberries, strawberries) 1 banana (minus a few chunks that i give to my min pin who is a banana freak) 1-2 Tbsp. coconut milk 1/4+ pure organic juice (usually apple, orange or berry juice) 1 sachet cili bao (rose hip with tons of superoxide dismutase) 5-10 drops beta-plex (mixed carotenoid supplement) 1 Tbsp. organic grass powder (moo!) and now, 1-2 tsps. raw pureed liver (grass-fed!) I think I'm going to alternate this with raw kidney a dollop of raw honey gathered a mile away from me (occassionally) >>>>FWIW, I think raw liver from feedlot steer is basically what you get at the grocery store, isn't it? ***Yes. >>>>I bought some and asked here if I should eat it and someone said emphatically, no! So I fed it to my dogs. They lived. ;-) ***LOL! I don't feed store-bought meats/organs to my dogs unless i'm absolutely desperate, such as this week when i ran out of local stuff and couldn't make it to the farm. I fed them coleman beef from the grocery store But usually, when push comes to shove, *they* get the local grass-fed stuff, and *I* eat the store-bought, when there's not enough grass-fed to go around Suze Fisher Web Design & Development http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3shjg/ mailto:s.fisher22@... Though there are many who would caution you against mixing fruit and meat or mixing foods in general. I thought that i'd better start with baby steps. The only fruits I seem to get away with mixing with meat w/o causing flatulence is pineapple and sometimes papaya. So here's where I'm at...i'm consuming raw milk regularly, have been consuming raw egg yolks regularly for about 3 weeks, and maybe 1-2 times a week consume partially raw steak. *****BTW, Aajonus Vonderplanitz contends that just eating the yolk on a regular basis revs up the metabolism, which might create an undesired effect in your case. It (liver) does taste much better (than straight up raw)in the drink. But I must say I started eating smoked oysters in cottonseed oil this week and they taste a 100 times better. Like there's a pleasurable factor in the food. Any chance the oysters are healthy? Dennis

Dennis I should venture to say that just about any animal would be an excellent source of vitamins and other nutrients when eaten whole. Guest guest
Dean- >Any chance the oysters are healthy? Oysters are great, but you should avoid cottonseed oil like the plague. I'm not sure about whether it's good to eat smoked things, but definitely avoid cottonseed oil. -

Guest guest
Please see my responses below. Regards, -=mark=-. Increase the amount of raw foods- to cooked foods slowly to allow your body to adjust. You say you are having raw steak about 1-2 times a week. If that is OK then you could try increasing that by adding raw liver. How fast to increase is an individual thing. I went at about 5% more raw food per each 2 weeks when starting out. Whether I eat beef, bison or liver (or other raw meats or fowl) doesn't seem to matter to me - just what taste I have at the moment. >--what are obvious signs that it would be causing any problems? stomach >pain? diarrhea? what? I'm not sure what you are expecting here? If the liver is fresh and grass-fed I can't think of why it would cause problems. I never had any problems with grass-fed liver, beef or bison - even when it was aged for months. >--for those of you who consume raw liver fairly regularly, how much do you >consumer per week? I think i recall that sally recommends 3-4 ozs./wk for >pregnant women? what about folks who aren't pregnant? That, again, is an individual choice. I eat about .5 pound every 2 days or more but I alternate between liver and other types of meats and fowl. After 2.5 years on the raw diet (at about 80% raw) I usually eat about 3/4 pound of meat a day. >--does anyone eat raw liver from feedlot steer? if so, how often? any >problems? (hmm...i think i've asked this before) If " feedlot " means the animals (Bison or Cows) are being fed something other than grass - then I rarely eat such meat. I prefer to eat grass-fed red meat. >--does anyone eat raw liver from *partially* grain-fed steer? from local >farms, perhaps? how often? (most of my winter supply is hay/grain-fed, and >i'm not sure if i should be eating it raw). I avoid red meat that is not grass-fed. But I do occasionally have some beef at about 5% of my total red meat intake at some times during the year. At other times it is 100% grass-fed red meat.
