Guest guest
Interesting, I'll add this to my notes. I was thinking of speaking to NASA about this (in my spare time of course) since they are located so close to me here in Florida. There's got to be a number of possible reasons why the rides stimulate Tanner's speech and motor planning...and even energy level. He's so much more -awake - if I can use that word, once he goes on the ride. It's not just him either since even for the little children that can't go on the " big " G force rides the parents see the surges on water slides. My suspicion was stimulation to the vestibular system, but Colleen from this group posted about the possibility that the surges are due to the body releasing adrenaline, dopamine etc. I can tell you that the results are temporary -are the strongest the day after. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=PubMed & list_uids=8\ 736645 & dopt=Abstract Tanner's one SLP Dr. Renai Jonas, from Boca Raton, Florida, out of FAU is interested in this research since we spoke about it. (and she saw the difference first hand!) (...so if you are in Florida contact Renai at 561-361-0307) All I know is that " ride therapy " is benign, inexpensive and tons of fun -and it works. We were going to go to Disney today with some of the boy's friends but Dakota had too much homework ( Lots of the neurological disorders that have nothing to do with apraxia appear to overlap in some way, like even the early stages of Alzheimer's! So it's a matter of finding the specific reason as to why there is a motor planning problem (that thankfully is not degenerative) and how to best help with it to help the child overcome it. =====
