Guest guest
So I'm not sure what brought this up, but there are some things that I never attempted to learn or do (hobby things) because of the way my nada would discourage & belittle me for them. Now, these aren't necessarily things I wanted to do as a kid, but I think that fear of trying something new (read: PTSD) kept me from doing it. I've decided, no more. I have a fond memory when I was about 11. On weekends, I'd go to my dad's house and there was a girl about my age that lived across the street. We would pick flowers & plants and put them in water to make our own " Perfume " . Since then, I've had an interest in learning how to make perfume, and so I've been researching it and I'm going to do it. It's really not that hard. But, it's also spurring something else I want to learn about. See, most perfume makers use essential oils. Sure, you can buy them, but it'd be cool to make my own too! Which leads me to yet something else I have wanted to learn... gardening! LOL. I also really like to cook so having fresh veggies, herbs & fruits would be awesome. I also love strawberries and there are so many different kinds that I really think I'd like to try a strawberry garden. So I've been researching and I am going to build what is called a " salad table " . It's designed by university of land's agricultural department, and the plans are online free. (If anyone's interested, here's a link: http://www.growit.umd.edu/Salad%20Tables%20and%20Salad%20Boxes/index.cfm) This would be great to keep critters out and to save my back & knees (bad knees) from having to crawl around on the ground. Plus, it's easily adaptable... instead of 2 x 4's for the walls, I'm going to use 2 x 8's so I can plant things that require deeper soil. I also want to build a bit of a frame off the top so I can put chicken wire over it to keep birds out. This is important for the strawberries especially since the birds love to eat them. Sorry this is kind of lengthy, but I realized the reason I never tried to do any of these things... all of them things I've had an interest in for quite some time... is due to how often nada would belittle, ridicule & make fun of me for having ideas like this & wanting to learn something new. So by God, I'm going to do it! And the salad table should be easy to build (I'm pretty handy anyway) and inexpensive =) Then I would have stuff to cook with, stuff to use to make oil infusions (need a distiller to get true essential oils, and that's too expensive, so infusions are another good option for perfumes) and hey.. something to do that I really think I'll enjoy =) Oh yeah, also going to make a compost bin =D Mia
Guest guest
Go Mia! What a lovely set of projects that interact with each other! Yes, its up to us as adults to shovel out that stinking pile of negative bulls**t that nada heaped up in our heads; that toxic crap needs to go: Nada sez: " Different=Dangerous " (S-c-r-a-p-e... that's wrong, and its gone!) Nada sez: " What a silly, embarrassing, childish, pointless thing to be interested in. " (S-c-r-a-p-e... THAT's wrong, and its gone!) Nada sez: " You're just not smart enough/talented enough/worthy enough to be any good at that, and at your age? " (S-c-r-a-p-e... and that's wrong, wrong, wrong, and its gone!) All that fly-specked, maggoty s**t scraped and shoveled out of your mind. Good! Nada piled the crap there in the first place in order to hobble us emotionally: prevent us from growing and learning and ceasing to be totally focused on her. Instead of drawing her growing child to her by being kind, supportive and nurturing, nada instead tried to make it impossible for us to go anywhere else out of fear, shame, and ignorance. That's all kinds of narcissistic, selfish and cruel. So, anyway, your projects sound delightful to me! -Annie > > So I'm not sure what brought this up, but there are some things that I > never attempted to learn or do (hobby things) because of the way my > nada would discourage & belittle me for them. Guest guest
Thanks Annie! I'm getting even more excited for spring now so it will be warm enough to go outside & build my salad table thingie hehe. I found an excellent grower with fabulous reviews online too who sells all kinds of variety of strawberries (plants & seeds). He has some " pineberry " bushes too... you may have seen photos of them online within the last year or so. They are white strawberries with red seeds and people say they taste like pineapple, hence the name. I've been dying to try these suckers which is what origionally sparked my interest in a strawberry garden (after years of wanting a veggie garden). I emailed to ask if they were seeds or plants, they are what they call quick start plants. So I'm going to order a couple of those and I think a couple of other variety! I'm excited to try it! And yes, you are right, I think it is some sort of narcissistic cross over in that line of thinking from our nadas that makes us " scrape the sh** " out of our minds and not do it. Guest guest
Thanks Girlscout! I love etsy, I'm not sure they would list the " tones " of the perfume and the oils used in them if they're selilng (you know, trade secrets & all lol) but I might just take a peek. I found a couple of recipes from a site that's all about perfume making that I will try as my first perfume experiments ;-) I'm feeling FABULOUS since surgery! I've been doing a lot more around the house and even went out shopping both Tuesday & yesterday. I went to wallmart both days... found a winter coat finally (no more doubling up on hoodies, brrr!) that was half off, so it was only $17.50! Then yesterday I went to a couple of places to look at essential oils, spent about 1.5 hours doing that and ended up back at walmart to pick up stuff for my favorite dinner, came home & made that (It's a kind of big dinner with a bit more work than usual)... All in all I was on my feet about 7 hours straight & felt fine! My stamina's not quite back to where it was, and my back & legs hurt but my pelvis was fine lol. I'm really happy! I also have appointments with the dean of my nursing program & someone from readmission & fin. aid next week. If all goes well I should be back in classes next month =D Ty so much for asking =) I'm really doing good! I'm hoping Ms. Jaie is too!
